To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, EARL B. LEAR, a citizen of the United States, and a residentof Phillipsburg, county of Warren, and State of New Jersey, have invented a certain Double-Drum Hoist, of which the following is a specification, accompanied by drawings.
This invention relates to hoists, but more particularly to a power driven hoist of the double drum type. o
One object of the invention is to enable two drums, as for instance, a haulage drum and a tail rope drum to be driven from a common source of power.
Another object is to arrange the source of power between the drums for actuating the hoist. A further object is to automatically connect one or the other of the drums with a common source of power in accordance with the direction of rotation of the power element.
Other objects will in part be` obvious and in part pointed out hereinafter.
The invention consists of the combinations of elements, features of construction and arrangement of parts having the general mode of operation substantially as hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which-v 4 Figure 1 is a longitudinal view in elevation, partly in section, of a hoist of the double drum type showing one of the drums connected to be rotated by the driving shaft,

Referring to the drawings, the base plate A which supports the hoist is mounted on a bed plate B to enable the hoist to be rotated about a vertical axis for locating said hoist with respect tol the work. Any suitable means may be employed for clamping the hoist to the bed plate, in this instance a bolt C is shown. In-addition toserving as a means for clamping the hoist on the bed plate, the bolt C may also serve as a pivot about which the hoist m-ay be rotated.
Disposed on opposite sides of the base plate A are end frames D and E. Gear casings F and G are preferably formed integrally with the frames D and E respectively and are provided with suitable covers H and J for sealing one side of saidcasings. The covers H and J are held in place by suitable bolts K. In Iaddition to sealing the ear casings, the covers I-I and J also provi e a support for opposite ends of ,a driving shaft L. In this instance the driving shaft L is formed in two parts and is preferably provided at its-ends with frictionless bearings O arranged in the gear casings H and J.
In accordance with the present invention, a motor, which is preferably of the type disclosed in the pending U. S. application of Fred M. Slater for a gear motor, Serial No. 56,681 tiled Sept. 16, 1925, assigned to the Ingersoll-Rand Company, assignee ofthe present invention, is arranged on the shaft L intermediate the frames D and E. The motor illustrated is of the gear type having the gear P and pinion Q encased by a casing R and side covers S and T. In this instance the gear P is keyed to-a bushing U having a rectangular bore V to receive correspond- Y are provided for the pinion Q and are journalledv on a stationary shaft Z about which the pinion Qrotates.
