'Application ined april 14,
Be it known that I, STEPHEN A. BAxALYArt,
I a citizen of the United States', and a-res1 dentof Des Moines, in' 'the county of Polk -andj- State of Iowa, have invented 'a-certain new and useful` Pen and' Pencil Holder, of'
f vwhich the following'is a specification.
easily and'quickly applied to a The object 'of'my invention is' to provide a pen'and pencil holder ofsirnple, durable] and inexpensive' construction, w ich maybe. garment for securing .the pen or pencil aga-inst becomin'g lost.-
More specieally it is the object' of my invention to provide" a pencil or pen holder having improved means for'positively securing the 'same'to the wearers, pocket, and
provided` with -means whereby 'it may be 1easly .and 'quickly applied'to or 'detached therefrom. My invention consists .in the construction,
arrangement and combination'of 4the varif/ ous parts of the device, whereby the objectsdrawingsyin which:

The-side contem lated are attained, as' hereinafter `lly' set -forth,pointed out inmy `more claims, and illustr'at d in `the accompanymg Figure 1 is a front elevation of the upper 30' end ofthe barrel of -a fountain pen showing 'the manner in whleh my improved holder is applied. r o
igure'2 is a side elevation-ofthe same. Figure taken on 'he' line 3-3 of Figure 1, showing '.applied to a -coat Figure 4 is' the same as' Figure 3, with the exception that the device is shown with the locking pin released.

The said members 14 form The said pivot 15"s designed to carry a pivoted clamping lever-16 which' is formed sub-v stantially U-shaped in cross section, and has `its lower` end provided' -with a lhollow sphertion being` provided with an opening .18. The 'up `r end 19 of thelever 16 extends .upward y andoutwardly, as clearly shown in Figure 2.
i Pivotally mounted between the side members of the levers 16 is a locking lever 20 mounted on lthe pivot 15.' The lower end of the lever 20 is provided. with 'an inwardly' extending locking pin the' lower end. of whichis provided with aninwardly extending pin 23 designed to pass through an opening 24 in theinner face io the member 19, said pin being designed to which is formed from'thebody portion 10. The said` member 25 extends upwardly and outwardly, and thence downwardly and inwardly, 'as clearly member 17, said spherical por-Q 2 1.' The upper end of the lever 20 is provided with Aan upwardly bearings-for a pivot 15.'

operator `simply places his finger on the member 22 and moves it inwardly, which will first cause the pin 21 to be pulled outwardly from the cloth, while the member 18 acts as a stripper. A further inward movement of the member I22 will cause the member 19 to engage the upper end of the spring 25, andthe member 18 to be disengaged from the pocket member, as clearly shown in Figure 5. The member 12 serves as a rest or guide for the pen holder while it is being placed into position, and also serves as a stop to limit the inward movement of the lower end of the lever 16 when the device is not applied to a pocket.
Thus it will be seen that I a pen and pencil holder of simple, durable and inexpensive construction, which may be secured to the barrel of a en or pencil in the usual manner by the c amping devices 11, after which the holder may be placed in position on the users pocket, and rmly locked in position by means of the pin 21 and the clamping member 18, and when so locked it will not accidentally come loose or lost, until the pin 21 has been withdrawn by means of the lever 22.
I claim as my invention:
1. A pencil holder comprising a body portion having clamping members for securing the body portion to a pencil, a pivoted stripper lever having a stripper on its lower end, a pivoted locking lever having a locking pin on its lower end designed to work through said stripper member, andmeans for yieldably moving the said stripper member and said locking pin toward the pencil, for the purposes stated.
2. A, pencil holder comprising a body portion having clamping members for securing the body portion to a pencil, a pivoted stripperlever having a stripper on its lower end, a pivoted locking lever having a locking pin 'on its lower end designed-to work through said stripper member, means for yieldably' 'moving 'the said. stripper member and said locking pin toward the pencil, 'and means for first moving thelocking in and then the stripper member outwar y from the pencil.
3. A pencil holder comprising a body porf have provided being provided with tending parallel ears, a stripper lever pivportion belng provided with outward a pencil when Secured in said clamp- 1 ing n1ember,'means for firstpmoving said locking pin outwardly and thence the stripper, substantially as described and for thev purposes stated.
4. A pencil holder comprising a body portion having cylindrically shaped clamping members for securing the same to a pencil, thel lower e d of said body portion being provided wit outwardly extending flange, the u per end of said body portion being provided with a spring member extending upwardly land wardly and inwardly, said body portion also a pair of outwardly exotally mounted between said ears, said lever being substantially U-shaped in cross section and having its lower end provided with a hollow spherically shaped stripper member having an opening, lever extending upwardly and outwardly, a locking lever pivotally mounted on the same pivot as the first said lever andbetween the side members thereof, dthe lower end of the locking lever being provided with a lookin pin ldesigned to enter the opening of sai stripper member, the upper end of said locking lever extending upwardly and outwardly and ,having its lower end provided with an inwardl pass througliI an opening in the upper en of said stripper lever and to engage the, free end' of the spring formed from said body portion, the upper end of said spring bein' designed to engage the yfupper end of sai .stripper lever.
