ATTORNEY,
Patented Jan. 19, 1926.
UNITED STATES ALBERT W. LAND, OF TOPEZKA, KANSAS.
COLLAR-BAND ATTACHMENT.
Application filed November 18, 1921, Serial No. 516,186. Renewed August 3, 1925.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ALBERT V. LAND. a citizen of the United States, residing at Topeka, in the county of Shawnee and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar-Band Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
It is the present practice of shirt manufacturers to make mens shirts in even and half sizes only in order to avoid the cost of making quarter sizes. This practice also eliminates the necessity of dealers going to the expense of carrying a much larger variety of sizes than at the present time.
However, such practice has made it impossible for persons requiring quarter sizes to obtain a proper fit around the neck, so the principal object of my invention is to provide an attachment for collar bands whereby a proper fit may be had by such persons.
In order that the invention may be fully understood, reference will now be had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. l is a fragmentary front elevation of a shirt equipped with the invention.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary front elevation of the shirt with the collar band unbuttoned.
Fig. 3 shows a modified form of attachment.
Fig. 4 shows another form of attachment.
Referring now in detail to the several parts, A designates a well-known style of shirt having a front opening B and a collar band C. The collar band C has the usual rear button hole D and front button holes E, which latter are adapted to receive a collar button such as F to fasten the ends of the collar band 0 together.
The collar band C is provided adjacent its ends with attachments 2 constituting the present invention. Each attachment is, preferably, folded into V-form and sewed at its ends to the collar band C. The attachments 2 consist, preferably, of linen tape or other strong material which can be laundered with the shirt. The folded portion or bight l is, preferably, arranged midway between the ends of the adjacent button hole E as disclosed by Fig. 2, so that the button F will be held centrally in the button holes instead of pulling towards the outer ends thereof as is customary when the ends of the collar band C are fastened. However, if the collar band C is too large for the neck the attachments 2 are so positioned that their folded portions at will come adjacent to the inner ends of the button holes E, so that more of the collar band C will be taken up to properly it the neck when secured to the button F. I
By providing the collar band C with my attachments, said collar band is prevented in practice from either bulging or folding but is caused to properly fit the neck. Said attachments also prevent the button holes E from pulling or tearing out and they may be employed with equal advantage on shirts with or without attached collars.
lVhile I have shown the attachments secured to the outer surface of the collar band C, it is to be understood that they may be secured to the inner surface.
I11 the modified form disclosed by Fig. 3, the attachments are arranged in the form of loops instead of V-forin as in Figs. 1
and 2.
In the form disclosed by Fig. 4 the at tachments 2 are arranged in the form of tabs having button holes 2.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire Patent, is: p
In combination with a shirt having a collar band with button holes adjacent to its ends, attachments consisting of flat strips of material of uniform width. folded into V-form loops and secured their spaced ends to said collar band adjacent to the button holes, the bight of said loops lying intermediate the ends of the button holes to vary the effective length of theneclr band.
In testimony whereof I atiix my signature.
ALBERT WV. LAND.
