DISPENSING DEVICE.
Application filed February 7, 1925. Serial No. 7,570.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BLAINE E. SNYDER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Watkins, in the county of Schuyler and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dispensing Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to dispensing device, designed primarily for the dispensing of eggs, but it is to be understood that a dispensing device, in accordance with this invention can be employed for dispensing any form of merchandise for which it is found applicable, and the invention has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a device of the class referred to, with means whereby eggs, or other articles of merchandise, contained therein are successively discharged therefrom when occasion requires.
A further object of the invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a dispensing device for eggs, which,
gg therefrom, will substantially simulate the laying of an egg by a fowl.
A further object of the invention is to rovide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a dispensing device which can be used as a toy, as well as an attractive advertising medium.
Further objects of the invention are to )rovide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a dispensing device which is simple in its construction, attractive in appearance, strong, durable, thoroughly efficient in its use, conveniently operated for dispensing eggs or other articles of merchandise, and inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be had, which fall within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.
In the drawings wherein like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views Figure 1, is a longitudinal sectional elevatlon of a dispensing device in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2, is a section on line 2-2, Figure 1.
Figure 3, is a section on line 3-3, Figure 1.
A dispensing device, in accordance with this invention, comprises a gravity movable front section simulated to the appearance of the head, neck and breast of a fowl and normally retained upright, a vertical movable spring controlled intermediate container section simulated to the appearance of the body of a fowl andnormally in an elevated position, a gravity movable back section simulated to the appearance of the tail of a fowl and normally retained upright, a pair of supporting standards for the intermediate section and which are simulated to the appearance of the legs and feet of the fowl, means for controlling discharge from the cogtainer section, and a base for the standar s.
The front section is indicated generally at 1 and it is constructed to represent the head 2, neck 3 and breast 4 of a fowl. The section 1 has its lower portion extend into the front of the container section, referred to generally by the reference character 5, and the lower end of the section 1 is mounted on a pivot 6, carried by the section Section 1 is normally maintained in an upright position by a flexible sustaining member 7, which has its upper end connected, as at 8, to the lower edge of section 1 and in alignment with pivot 6. The lower end of the member 7 is connected to an eye 9, secured to a rectangular base 10. The section 1, when the member 7, becomes slack, in a manner as hereinafter referred to, lowers by gravity on pivot 6.
The back section is indicated at 11, and is constructed to represent the tail of a fowl. Section 11 extends into the rear of and is .mounted on a pivot 12 carried by section 5.
Section 11 is normally maintained in an upright position by a flexible sustaining member 13, which has its upper end, as at 14,
secured to the inner edge of the section. The
lower end of member 13 is connected-to an eye 15 secured to the base 10 rearwardly of the eye 9, but in alignment therewith. The section 11,, when the member 13, becomes slack, in a manner as hereinafter referred to, lowers by gravity on pivot 12.
The section 1 projects forwardly from section 5, and normally at an upward inclination. The section 11 projects rearwardly from section 5 and normally at an upward inclination. The sections 1 and 11 are oppositely disposed with respect to each other, but swing on their pivots simultaneously to and from normal position, when the section 5 is elevated and lowered.
The intermediate or container section 5 comprises a flaring receptacle having a reduced rectangular lower port1on const1- tuting a discharge end 17 formed with two superposed pairs of diametrically opposed slots. The upper pair ofslots is indicated at 18 and the slots of the lower pair at 19.
The section 5, further includes a pair of oppositely disposed curved side members 20, 21, each formed with an inwardly arranged depending stepped fiange at the top thereof and which is secured to the periphcry of the receptacle 16 at the top thereof. The flange carried by the side member 20,
is indicated at 22 and by the member 21,
at 23. Each of said flanges below its top is formed with a shoulder 24, and that portion of the flange above the shoulder is spaced from the receptacle 16. The side members extend forwardly and rearwardly with respect to the receptacle 16, and the latter is disposed centrally w1th respect to the side members. The flanges .22, 23, are of arcuate contour and of less length than the side members, and each of these latter, centrally of its lower edge is formed with a depending hollow tapered guide 25 wh ch extends inwardl from its respective side member and is formed with an opening 26 in the bottom thereof.
Secured to the inner face of each side member, and extending at right angles thereto is a guide block 27, having its in= ner end formed with a vertical guide passage 28, arranged in Vertical alignment with an opening 26. The pivot 6, which is in the form of a rod is connected to the side members forwardly of the receptacle 16, and the pivot 12, which also is in the form of a rod is connected to the side members rearwardly of the receptacle 16.
The pair of supporting standards are indicated at 29, 30, and each of which is constructed to simulate, in connection with the guides 25, a leg and foot of a fowl. The lower end of each standard is provided with a foot piece 31 which is secured to the base 10 and which is in the form of the foot of a fowl. Each standard is of a length to extend from the base 10 through a guide block 27, when the section 5 is in its elevated position and mounted on each of the standards and interposed between a collar 32 and a guide block 27 is a coiled spring 33 which acts to maintain the section 5, in an elevated position. The upward movement of the section 5 is arrested by the lower ends of the guides 25 abutting against the collars 32 which are secured to the standards a substantial distance above the base 10.
The inner face of the lower portion 17, of the receptacle 16 is formed by diametrically opposed grooved enlargements, arranged in upper and lower pairs 34, 35 and each pair provides a combined guide and support for a slidable closure for the bottom of the receptacle 16. The slides are arranged in spaced superposed relation, shift alternately and simultaneously in opposite directions, and that slide carried by the enlargements'34, is indicated at 36, and that carried by the enlargement 35, at 37. The slide 36 shifts through the slots 18, and the slide 37 through the slots 19. I
The slides 36 and 37 are rectangular in contour and the former at a point between its transverse center and inner end is formed with a circular discharge opening 38 which communicate with a reduced centrally disposed rectangular opening 39 at the inner end of the slide and the latter in proximity to its outer end edge is provided with a rectangular slot 40. The slide 37, at a point between its transverse center and outer end is formed with a circular discharge opening 41, and at a point in proximity to its outer end edge is provided with a rectangular slot 42. The slide 36 acts to alternately open and close the upper portion of the receptacle 16 to the lower portion 17. thereof. The slide 37 acts to alternately open and close the lower portion 17 of the receptacle 16. The positioning of an egg, or other article of merchandise for discharge is controlled by slide 36, and the discharge of the egg or article is permitted by slide 37 when shifted to dispensing position.
The shifting of the slides 36, 37 alternately in opposite direction is had through the medium of a pair of curved operating elements 43, 44, the former associated with slide 36 and the latter with slide 37. The elements 43, 44 are oppositely disposed with respect to each other and have their lower ends upturned, as at 45, and abut, when the section 5 is in its elevated position against the inner side of the members 7, 13. The element 43 has its upper end secured, as at 46, to the inner end of the section 11 above the upper end of the member 13. The element 43 extends inwardly from the section 11 and passes through the slot 40, as well as depending below the side members. The

The section 5, further includes a top 48 for the receptacle 16 and which forms the back of the fowl. The upper face of the top 48, is flush with the outer faces of the side members and forms a continuation thereof. The top seats on the upper edges of the side members and is formed with a depending annular rim 49, seating on the shoulder 24. The top 48 projects to a point in close proximity to the forward and rear ends of the side members.
\Vhen the section 5, is moved downwardly on application of pressure thereto, such movement is had against the action of the springs 33, and when the pressure is relieved the springs automatically restore the section to its normally elevated position. When the section 5 is moved downwardly the sections 1 and 11 drop simultaneously by gravity on their pivots. When the sec tions 1 and 11 drop by gravity, the elements 43, 44 describe an arc of a circle and cause the operation of the slides in opposite directions, whereby slide 36 will be moved to closure position and slide 37 to open position to dispense the article or egg. When the section 5 moves upwardly the elements 43, 44, will act to shift slide 36 to open position and slide 37 to closure position whereby an egg or other article will be positioned to be dispensed on the opening movement of slide 37.
It is thought that the many advantages of a dispensing device, in accordance with this invention, can be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, yet it will be understood that changes in the details of construction can be had which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
\Vhat I claim is 1. A dispensing device comprising a vertically movable spring controlled container section shiftable in one direction on the application of pressure thereto, normally sustained gravity movable front and back sections pivotally supported from and releasable from sustained position on shift in one direction of said container section, a pair of spaced superposed article dispensing control slides mounted in said container section, and a pair of curved operating elements carried by the front and back sections and extending through said slides for operating these latter alternately in opposite directions on the vertical movement of the container section whereby an article is dispensed from and positioned for dispensing within the latter.
2. A dispensing device comprising a vertically movable spring controlled container section shiftable in one direction on the application ofpressure thereto, normally sustained gravity movable front and back sections pivotally supported from and releasable from sustained position on shift in one direction of said container section, a .pair of spaced, superposed article dispensing control slides mounted in said container section, means carried by said front and back sections for operating said slides alternately in opposite directions on the vertical movement of the container section whereby an article is dispensed from and positioned fdr dispensing within the latter, and a pair of standards extending into and provided with controlling springs for said container section.
3. A dispensing device comprising a vertically movable spring controlled container section shiftable in one direction on the application of pressure thereto, normally sustained gravity movable front and back sections pivotally supported from and releasable from sustained position on shift in one direction of said container section, a pair of spaced superposed article dispensing control slides mounted in said container section, a pair of curved operating elements carried by the front and back sections and extending through said slides for operating these latter alternately in opposite directions on the vertical movement of the container section whereby an article is dispensed from and positioned for dispensing within the latter, and a pair of standards extending into and provided with controlling springs for said container section.
4. A dispensing device comprising a verticallymovable spring controlled container section shiftable in one direction on the application of pressure thereto, normally sustained gravity movable front and back sections pivotally supported from and releasable from sustained position on shift in one direction of said container section, a pair of spaced, superposed article dispensing control slides mounted in said container section, means carried by said front and back sections for operating said slides alternately in opposite directions on the vertical movement of the container section whereby an article is dispensed from and positioned for dispensing within the latter, and a flexible sustaining member for the front and for the back section.
5. A dispensing device com rising a vertically movable spring controlled container section shiftable in one direction on the application of pressure thereto, normally 8118- III these latter alternately in opposite directained gravity movable front and back sections plvotally supported from and releasable from sustained position on shift in one direction of said container section, a pair of spaced superposed article dispensing control slides mounted in said container section, a pair of curved operating elements carried by the front and back sections and extending through said'slides for operating these latter alternately in opposite directions on the vertical movement of the container section whereby an article is dispensed from and positioned for dispensing within the latter, and a flexible sustaining member for the front and for the back section.
6. A dispensing device comprising a vertically movable spring controlled container section shiftable in one direction on the application of pressure thereto, normally sustained grayity movable front and back sections pivotally supported from and releasable from sustained position on shift in one direction of said container section, a pair of spaced, superposed article dispensing control slides mounted in said container section, means carried by said front and back sections for operating said slides alternately in opposite directions on the ver tical movement of the container section whereby an article is dispensed from and positioned for dispensing within the latter, a pair of standards extending into and provided with controlling springs for said contained section, and a flexible sustaining member for the front and for the back section.

A dispensing device comprising a vertically movable spring controlled container section shiftable in one direction on the application of pressure thereto, normally sustained gravity movable front and back sections pivotally supported from and releasable from sustained position on shift in one direction of said container section, a pair of spaced superposed article dispensing control slides mounted in said container section, a pair of curved operating elements carried by the front and back sections and extending through said slides for operating tions on the vertical movement of the container section whereby an artlcle is dispensed from and positioned for dispensing within the latter, a pair of standards ex-' tending into and provided with controlling springs for said container section, and a flexible sustaining member for the front and for the back section.
8. A dispensing device comprising a vertically movable spring controlled container section shiftable in one direction on the application of pressure thereto, normally sustained gravity movable front and back sectionspivotally supported from and releasable from sustained position on shift in one direction of said container section, a pair of spaced, superposed article dispensing control slides mounted in said container section, means carried by said front and back sections for operating said slides alternately in opposite directions on the vertical movement of the container section whereby an article is dispensed from and positioned for dispensing within the latter, a pair of standards extending into and provided with controlling springs for said container section, and said container section provided with guide elements co-acting with said standards.

A dispensing device comprising a vertically movable spring controlled container section shiftable in one direction on the application of pressure thereto, normally sustained gravity movable front and back sections pivotally supported from and releasable from sustained position on shift in one direction of said container section, a pair of spaced superposed article dispensing control slides mounted in said container section, a pair of curved operating elements carried by the front and back sections and extending through said slides for operating these latter alternately in opposite directions on the vertical movement of the container section whereby an article is dispensed from and positioned for dispensing within the latter, a pair of standards extending into and provided with controlling springs for said container section, and said container section provided with guide ele ments co-acting with said standards.
