Be it known that I, ABRAHAM SoNDAoii, a citizen of Russia, residing at Bronx, county of Bronx, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful .Improvements in Ironing Boards, of which the following is a specification.

riihis invention :relates to improvements in ironing boards, and has particular reference to a folding support therefor.

An object of the invention is to provide an improved ironing board of simple and inexpensive construction, the support for which may be readily set up in operative position and easily and quickly folded when not in use.

The above and other objects will appear more clearly from the following detailed descript-ion, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, which illustrate a preferred embodiment of the inventive idea.

Referring inore particularly to the accompanying drawings the ironing board is shown as consisting of a standard 7 of substantially U shaped formation and preferably made of light channel iron or other suitable material, the bight portion 8 of the standard forming the base thereof when the board is in use. The sides of the standard 7 may be braced by suitable cross bars 9 and the upper ends of said sides have rigidly secured thereto the laterally extending lugs 10. A bracket 11 has its ends pivoted to the lugs with the intermediate portion thereof secured to the board 12 adjacent one end so as to provide a pivotal support for said board.

The support further includes a second standard 13 of inverted U shaped formation, the lower free extremities of said standard having pivoted thereto the :feet 14 which rest Serial No. 10,813.

The end of the 75 brace 19 opposite the pivot 2O is pivoted at 21 to the lower cross piece 9 of the standard 7 To the extremity of the short arm of the brace 18 is pivoted a third brace 22 which is in turn pivotally connected at 23 to the S9 cross piece 2a joining the sides of the standard 13.

Adjacent the free end of the board 12 the same is provided upon its under surface with a. stop or catch 25 capable of being engaged by the bight portion of the standard 13 so as to retain said standard in its operative position and maintain the various elements constituting the support in a rigid condition. In setting up the support an outward pull in the direction of the free end of the board 12 is exerted upon the standard 13 so that the same is moved slightly about its lpivotal connection with the feet 141. This puil upon the standard 13 will have a tendency to lift 95 the short end of the brace 18 through the medium of the brace 22 and therefore, due to the slight flexibility of the various braces, it will be apparent that the standard will be placed under a certain amount of tension as it is pulled out preparatory to engaging the catch 25. In order to fold the support the standard 13 must be pulled outwardly to diseiigage the same from the catch and theren after the free end of the board 12 may be 105 lifted slightly. The upper end of the standard 13 is then moved toward the standard 7 a slight distance to cause the brace 18 to rock about its pivot and break the connection between it and the brace 19 whereupon the U0 standard 7 together with the braces 15, may

The board is provided with an accessoryY in the form oit a shelf 2G pivoted at 2T to the standard 7 and having,- lugs 2S capable or" engaging` the braces l5 when the board is in its operative position so that when an iron or other implen'ient is placed upon the shelt the latter will be maintained in a horizontal position. At the saine time the shelf is tree to swing' to the inoperative position shown in Figure #l when the board and its support are folded.

What is claimed is:
