Description

.Dec. 1 1925. I 1,563,459
H. W. VOLLAND DISPENSING DEVICE Filed Sept. 13. 1924 III Patented Dec. 1, 1925.
UNITED (STATES PATENT OFFICEQ] HOMER W. VOLLAND, OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA, ASSIGNOR 'IO HAROLD W. GRAHAM,
OF OMAHA, NEBRASKA.
DISPENSING DEVICE.
Application filed September 13, 1924. Serial No. 737,624.
To all w/tom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HOMER W. VOLLAND, a citizen of the United States, residing at Omaha, in the county of Douglas and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Dispensing Device, ofwhich the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a device for removing tooth paste or shaving cream from their flexible jackets, cases or tubes, and has for its object to provide a holder for the tube, a closure for the open end of the tube and a compression member for causing removal of the contents, the parts to be few and simple so that the device may be manufactured conveniently and economically, and of such arrangement of parts thatan operator, by use of one hand, may readily remove the contents or so much thereof as may be required.
The invention consists of the novel and useful construction, combination and arrangement of parts as described herein and claimed, and as illustrated in the accompanying drawing, it being understood that changes in form, size, proportion of parts and minor details may be made as found to be of, advantage, said changes being determined by the scope of the invention as claimed.
' In the drawing, Fig. 1 is a front or plan view of the device. Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation showing, the device secured to a wall or other support, parts being in section. Fig. 3 is an end View of the device. Fig, 4 is a broken away detail, partly in section, relating to Fig. 1, showing an aperture formed in the foot-piece or flange of the holderplate for receiving theopen end of a tube, and showing a gate or closure-member for the tube. Fig. 5 is a broken away view, partly in section, showing a modified form for a contact-piece.
Referring now to the drawing for a'more particular description, the invention is shown and described in connection with a tubular receptacle 6 of thin, soft or pliable metal adapted to contain plastic material, such as the conventional tube. of tooth paste or tube of shaving cream, and as is well known, the tubularcasing, when closed, prevents evaporation of the plastic con tents, said contents being removed through the neck a from time to time, as required, by manually pressing the tube.
In order that the objects first mentioned may be attained, I provide an elongated holder-plate 7 for supporting the tube'6, said plate having an apertured foot-piece or upset flange 8 at one of its ends, and the tube may be disposed on its side, at the medial line of the plate with its neck engaging in the aperture 7) of the flange 8, said aperture being disposed in a plane midway between the sides or longitudinal edges of the plate.
- I. provide means for pressing the tube to eii'ect convenient removal of its contents,
said means consisting, in part, of a pair of approximately parallel arms 9, these arms being pivotally mounted in the plate, as
indicated at 0, adjacent to that end thereof opposite to the flange 8, said arms being disposed approximately parallel with the longitudinal axis of the plate, outwardly of the sides of the tube, and being provided with a movable contact-piece 10.
lVhile this member 10 is shown as a bloc I having apertures d for( receiving and op- 3 crating as guides for said member so that it may have sliding movements thereon, it is obvious that any other contact-piece could be substituted which would perform the same functions, and as a substitute for said member 10 I have shown, in Fig. 5, a roller '1', said roller being journalled upon a spiridle 8 having eyes 2? for receiving the arm 9 to permit sliding-movements thereon.
As shown in the drawing, the arms 10 form parts of a loop approximately of U- shape'in plan, said loop preferably being bent outwardly at its middleat right-angles to the arms, to provide a handle a for use when moving said arms toward the tube for pressing and removing its contents.
Numeral 11 indicates a closure-plate for the device when in use may be supported horizontally, if desired.
Having fully described construction, operation will be readily understood. It will be noted that the loop or arms 9, which may swing from their pivotal mounting a, are of adequate length and extend beyond or outwardly of the flange 8, and therefore all of the contents of a tube may be removed. An operator, after placing a tube on the plate 7 with its neck engaging in the aperture 5, the closure-plate 11 being swung to open position, may cause exudation of the contents, by use of the handle 6, only a slight pressure generally being required for exuding a limited supply, and after delivery of. the contents or a part thereof, the plate 11 may be swung to a closed position, which tends to protect and maintain the contents in .a sanitary condition; and it is obvious that member 10 may, from time to time, be moved on the arms 9 toward the open end or neck of the tube, as far as may be required, until the removal of the entire contents will be complete. In addition to'the foregoing advantages, it will be appreciated that the use of the device will be convenient, and will effect a saving of time, since a supply of the contents of a tube will be readily available at all times.
I claim as my invention In a dispensing device for collapsing a flexible tube, a holder-plate having apertures formed therein adjacent to one of its ends, its opposite end being provided with a foot-piece for supporting the tube, a compressor of approximately U-shape providing a pair of parallel arms and a handle at the connected ends of said arms, a contact-piece slidable. on said arms, said compressor having its arms engaging in said apertures to permit swinging movements relative to said plate and having a length permitting its handle to be disposed beyond the foot-piece.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature.
HOMER W. VOLLAND.
