Be it known that I, BURBON D. RAWLS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Shreveport, in the parish of Caddo and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Concrete- Monument Molds; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to molds for making concrete monuments, and has for one of its objects the provision of a novel, simple, and inexpensive device of this character through the medium of which the name, date of birth, and date of death of the person in whose memory the monument is to be erected, together with an epitaph, or a scriptural verse, can be printed on or applied to the monument during the molding thereof.

The foregoing object and others are attained by the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figurel is a view in front elevation of the mold embodying my invention,

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description, and designated in the several views of the accompanying drawings, by similar reference characters.

The mold comprises a front 1, a back 2, and sides 3. The front 1 and back 2 have secured to their inner surfaces vertical strips 4 against which the sides 3 rest and which are provided with curved faces 5 in order that the monument will have curved vertical edges. Horizontal strips 6 are secured to the front 1 and back 2 adjacent the upper and lower ends thereof. The strips 6 extend beyond the sides 3 and are provided in their upper edges with notches 7. The front 1, back 2, and sides 3 are retained in assembled relation by locking bars 8 which are removably engaged with the strips 6 and contact with the outer surfaces of the sides 3. The locking bars 8 are provided in their lower edges with notches 9, and the notched portions of these bars engage in the notched portions of the strips 6 and due thereto the locking bars are held against casual forward, or backward, or outward movement with respect to the strips 6.

The mold may be readily taken apart or erected and firmly secured in erected condition. lVhen it is desired to take the mold apart it is only necessary to remove the locking bars 8, while when it is desired to secure the mold in erected condition it is only necessary to apply the locking bars to the strips 6.

The front 1 is provided with a lower opening 10 and an upper opening 11. The opening 10 is adapted to receive the type forming an epitaph or scriptural verse, and the opening 11 the type forming the name, date of birth and date of death of the person in whose memory the monument is to be erected. Vertical bars 12 are secured to the front 1 at opposite sides of the openings 10 and 11, and provided in their upper and lower ends with grooves 13. A fixed horizontal bar 14 is secured to the front 1 between the Vertical bars 12, and its lower side occupies a plane coincident with the top wall of the opening 10. A movable horizontal bar 15 is slidably connected to and positioned between the vertical bars 12, and to this end the bar 15 is provided with tongues 16 fitting in bottom grooves 13 of the vertical bars 12. Bolts 17 depending from the bar 14 pass freely through openings 18 in the bar 15, and mounted on the lower ends of the bolts are nuts 20 upon which the bar 15 rests and through the medium of which this bar may be moved in the direction of the bar 14 to clamp the type 21 in place. The type are positioned in the opening 10 with their faces located inwardly beyond the inner surface of the front 1. The parts 14, 15, 17 and 20 constitute a type clamp. A similar clamp is provided for the type 21 in the opening 11, 14 designating the fixed bar, 15 the movable or adjustable bar, 16 the tongues for the movable or adjustable bar, 17* the bolts, and 20 the nuts of thiszclamp. \Vhen the matter to be printed on the monument does not require su'flicient type to fill up the openings 10 and 11, fillerbars 23 may be arranged in the openings in order to pre vent the type from having any casual-movement during the molding of the monument, The vertical bars 12 are braced bya bolt 2% occupying a position between the clamp bars l-l and 14:.

From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it shouldbe apparent that the mold embodies novel and simple means through the medium of which the name, date of birth and date of death of the person in Whose memory the monumentis to be erectedcan be printed on the monument. during the molding'thereof, and that this means also permits an epitaph or scriptural verse to be printed on the monument during the molding thereof. It'should also be understood that the drawings are merely illustrative and do not pretend to give exact proportions. Furthermore, the said drawings are illustrative of a preferred construction, it be ng my expectation that VELlIOUS changes and modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.

"What is claimed is:

1. A mold having one of the Walls thereof provided With atype receiving opening, guides fixed to said Wall, a bar fixed to said Wall between said guides, a second bar slidably arranged in said guides, and adjusting means carried by said bars, said guides, bars, and means constituting a type clamp.

2. A mold having one ofthewalls thereof provided with openings positioned one above the other, vertical guides fixed to said Wall at opposite sides of said openings, horizontal bars fixed to said wall between said guides and openings, horizontal bars movable in said guides, and adjusting means connected to said bars, said guides, bars and means constituting type clamps.
