To all whom it may concern:
Be 1t lrnown that I, FRANK T. SonLo'rzniomua citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city and county of San FY2111" cisco, State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Oil and Gas Burner, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a. heating apparatus of the character in which liquid fuel is generated into a gas which is mixed with air and consumed at a burner. As is well known, a highly eiiicient heat producing apparatus comprises a so called retort or generator usually in the form of a comparatively small tube into which liquid fuel is introduced at one end and, the tube being subjected to heat, the oil is vaporized and gasiiied and passes out of the tube into a mixing chamber where it is commingled withthe desired proportion of air when it is ready to be burned at a suitable burner device. Such a burner device of a well known and practical form consists of a burner chamber provided with a plurality ofapertures or throats in a plane and in these throats are arranged lava or other heat resisting elements, perforated or otherwise designed to permit the escape of the combustible gas from the burner chamber in a myriad of small jets which generally burn with a blue flame of great heat.
It is one of the objects of the present invention to provide an improvement in oil burners having retorts for generating the fuel from a liquid to a gaseous form. More particularly, it is an object of my invention to provide an improved generating tube or V retortin the form of a spiral c011.

A very convenientand useful form of a stove of the character indicated is shown in Fig. 1, in which the burner chamber 2, is shown as of circular form in plan and is provided on its top with a circular series on the mantles 8, which surround a fire resistent backing in the form of a chamber C, having an open top in which may be inserted any removable vessel as a container V, which, when inserted in the circular refractory 1921. To efficiently heat this form of retort coil, a form of burner is shown as in the form of a hollow disc 25, Figs. 3 and 4t, having in its top a series gas outlet apertures 26; the central portion of thetop being provided with a pad of asbestos, as at 27, which when saturated with alcoholand the latter is ignited, will serve for initially heating the superposed coil 11, as shown in Fig. 1.
The outletfrom the coil leads into the mixingchamber 12, thence into the annular burner chamber 2. After the initial heating of the coil and gas is generated, some of the gas is taken from the chamber 2, by a short connection 28, leading to the burner 25, and the gas escaping at the outlets'26, maintains the generating coil 11" in heated condition, as required. 7
While any suitable provision may be utilized for igniting the fuel at the burner 25,- this may be conveniently accomplishedby the insertion of an alcohol discharging nozzle indicated in dotted lines N, which may be passed through a recess 2*, in the top of the burner 2.
It is manifest that the spiral coil 11, will quickly generate gas from the oil by reason of the compact relation of the coils of the tube, which also provides a very consider able length of tubing in a comparatively small area. An advantage of the spiral form over a straight retort is that the whole length of the spiral coil is heated by a comparatively small zone of combustion as distinguished from a straight retort pipeof a given lengtlnonly a portion of which, conto be used in the burner comprising a fiat convoluted pipe disposed Within the space encompassed by the body.

In an oil burning heater, an annular body providing fuel chamber annular form, a plurality of burners communicating with the chamber, a fiat convoluted pipe disposed Within the space encompassed by the body, for heating oil to be used in the burner, and an auxiliary heater for the pipe disposed below it and connected to the main chamber.

In an oil burner, an annular body forming an annular fuel chamber, a plurality of burners communicating With the chamber, refractory mantles disposed over the burners and forming, With the annular body, an interior space, and a fiat convoluted pipe for heating oil to be used in the burner, disposed within this space.
6. In an oil burning store an annular gase ous fuel chamber, a retort arranged Within the circular chamber and surrounded thereby and which chamber is connected to the discharge end of the retort, a prelimiary igniting device including a pan arranged below theretort to receive an initial charge of combustible material for initially heating the retort, and a gas connection between the said chamber and the said device for supplying a portion of the generated fuel to the igniting device after generation has started in. the retort.
