Description

Nov. 17, 1925- M. T. HARMON RECORD HOLDING AND DISPLAYING FRAME FOR TOMBSTONES ETC Filed Dec 1, 1924 gnom'floz MZLYO/WZOW Patented Nov. 17, 1925. v
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MELVIN '1. HABMON, 01 PRICE: UTAH.
Application and December 1, 1924. Serial no. 753,319.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that-I, MnLvmT. HARMON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Price, in the county of Carbon and State of 5 Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Record Holding and Displaying Frame for Tombstones, Monuments, Etc., of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates generally to tombstones,'monuments, grave markers, etc. and has more particular reference to a means whereby records representative of the person or persons for whom the monument, etc. was erected may be maintained and displayed. a f
The primary object of an invention of this character is to provide such means whereby it will not be necessary to carve the record directly into the monument, etc. but wherein the record may be painted, engraved or the like onto a suitable member which is maintained in display within a suitable pocket formed in the monument. etc.
A further and important object is to provide a record holding and displaying means for monuments wherein the same may at all times be readily viewed and wherein the entrance of moisture, dirt or the like will be prevented, due to the particular con struction of the present means.
' A further object is to provide 'a record holding and displaying means whereby the same may be readily removed from or associated with the monument whenever desired.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, as the nature of the invention will be better understood, the same comprises the novel form, combination and arrange ment of arts hereinafter more fully described, s own in the accompanying drawin and claimed.
the drawing, wherein like reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout both of the views:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a somewhat conventional form of tombstone equi ped with my novel record holding and CllSP aying means, and v Figure 2 is an enlarged detail vertical sectional view thereof. I
Now having particular reference to the drawin 5 indicates the conventional form of tom stone constructed preferably of a plastic composition, it being however understood that I do not wish to be limited to the application of my device to a tombstone, monument, or the like of any particular construction or material, insomuch as in the future practice of my invention, the same cast metal frame 6 that is molded within the flat face of the tombstone, the edges of the inner closed end of the pan shaped frame being suitably flanged as at 7 for providingan interlocking feature between the frame and the tombstone as clearly shown in Figure 2.
Within the inner end of the frame adjacent the rear wall thereof is a rectangular shaped frame 8, the four corners and sides of which are formed with bendable sheet' the cardboard or. felt immediately protect-' ing the inscription, record, etc. from moistureand dust.
Adjacent the front open end of the pan shaped frame 6, the same is channeled as at 12 within which the edges of a glass window 13 rests. This window 13 is maintained within the channel through the medium of a rectangular sha ed frame 14 that is also disposed within t e channel 12 forward of the window 13 the same being maintained in position through the medium of bolt and nut connections 15. These nuts of the connections are embedded within the tombstone 5 during the molding thereof and the bolts pass through openings in the'frame 14 as clearly shown in Figure 2, in such a manner as to seal the frame 14 tightly to the pan shaped frame 6, preventing ingress of moistur and dust The material forming the frame 6 at a point beyond the channel 12 is flared outwardly for providing a skirt 16 that has close contact with the material forming the stone and at the edge of this skirt the material is so shaped as to provide a channel 17, the upper edge of which extends rearwherein the record ma be-readily removed from the frame for a dition purposes, and one wherein the record sheet may be readily viewed by persons passing the monument or the construction, the said record sheet being at the same time fully protected from moisture and dust.
Minor changes may be made in the invention without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secureby Letters Patent is In combination with a monument, a relatively an-shapcd body embedded within one face 0? ner wall and side walls, said inner wall being bent over upon itself at its edges and said bent over portions merging into the side walls, a transparent closure for the panshaped body, nuts embedded in to the monument, and bolts for engaging into the nuts '4 and holding the transparency in place.
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
MELVIN T. HARMON.
