Description

Nov. 17, 1925.
J. E. JOHANNE'SEN GARMENT Filed Sent. 15, 1923 IN V EN TOR A TTORNE Y Patented Nov. 17, 1925.
UNITED STATES PATENT. OFFICE.
JOHAN E. JOHANNESEN, OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-FOURTH TO JOHN A. JOI-IANSEN AND TI-IREE-SIXTEENTHS TO ARTHUR I. AHLG-lR-EN, BOTH OF BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
GARMENT.
Application filed September 15, 1923. Serial No. 662,886.
To all ir/iom it" may] concern:
Be it known that I, dorms E. Jorrnnnnsun, a citizen of the United States, and resident of di- Second Place, Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Garments, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garments in general and particularly to over-ails which may be termed slip-over-alls.
The prime object of my invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive garment of this kind which may be readily manipulated in both donning it and taking it off.
A further object of my invention is to provide simple means of adjustments as to size in lengthwise and in circumferential dimensions.
A further object of my invention is to provide within such garment a protective front piece which substantially covers the entire front portion of the body and which may manipulated in the same way as would be a vest or a shirt being adapted to be opened or buttoned when desired.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a substantially designed collar which may be turned up and buttoned when it is desired to protect the neck portion of the wearer.
Another object of my invention is to provide in the rear of the upper garment portion a tapering adjustable suspending member provided with means for attaching it and suspending thereby the lower rear portion of the garment.
A still further object of my invention is to provide in the lower portion of the garment a reinforced central seam at the upper end of which attaching means are provided facilitating the association therewith of the suspension member.
A still further object of my invention is to provide in connection with the reinforced rear flap sidewisely arranged adjusting means for varying the circumferential size of the rear flap.
The foregoing and further objects will be more clearly apparent from the following description and the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification and in which, Figure 1, represents one preferred form of my garment, seen from the front.
Figure 2 illustrates the same garment from the rear.
Figure 3 shows a modified form of my garment where the trousers portion has been substituted by an apron or skirt.
Referring to the drawings-numeral 10 denotes the lower trousers portion of my garment which is provided with a plurality of pockets indicated at 11 and a buttonable front 12.
The rear portion of the lower garment part comprises a buttonable flap 13 which is provided with a reinforcement indicated at 14 so as to double the seat portion of the garment. In order to still more reinforce the rear flap, there is provided an elongated central seam indicated at 15, at the upper part of which a button 16 is attached, the operation of which will be explained later. The rear flap is buttonable at the sides and I preferably provide a large upper button 17 and snap fasteners 18 at the lower part of the buttoning portion.
Adjacent to the buttoning portion and near the upper edge of the rear flap, I have provided adjusting means indicated at 19 adapted to regulate the circumferential dimensions of the rear flap.
The upper garment portion 20 comprises a vest or a shirt-like front split at the center and adapted to be buttoned as indicated at 2]..
The front part of the upper garment portion is made wide enough to practically cover the entire front portion of the wearers body.
A collar 22 is' provided above the buttonable portion of the garment and is so arranged as to permit the turning up thereof and buttoning it when desired as indicated in Figure 2 in the drawings.
The rear part of the upper garment portion indicated at 23 is tapered and made adjustable by any suitable means indicated at 24:. The reduced end of the rear part 23 is reinforced as indicated at 25 and I preferably provide in that reinforcement a button-hole to be engaged by button 16 of the rear flap of the lower garment portion.
It Will be noted that the edges of the upper garment portion and the edges of the rear flap are reinforced by seams so as to withstand rough usage by the wearer.
Referring to Figure 3, the lower garment portion 10 takes the form of a skirt or apron while the remainder of the construction of the garment is the same as described above. This form as shown in Figure 8 is adapted to be worn by females.
lVhile I have shown and described a spe- 'cific construction of my garment, be it understood that various improvements or changes may be made without departing from the broad scope of my invention for which I claim:
A slip over garment of the character described comprising a lower garment portion, a flap arranged on the rear thereof and buttonable to the front of the lower from the upper end of the shirt like portion and having a reinforced button hole in its lower end to receive the button and a means for adjusting the length of the tapered depending portion as and for the purpose specified.
Signed at New York in the county of New York and State of New York this 5th day of September, A. 1)., 1923.
J OHAN E. JOHANNESEN.
