To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, LEWIS A. GAMnoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, in the county of Stark and State of 5 Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Vacuum Collector-s, of which the following is a specification. This invention relates to apparatus for use in barber shops andsimilar places for collecting hair clippings by "means of a vacuum device, and more especially to an. apparatus of this character which may be, connected with an exhaust fan fo r. carrying away hair clippings from a person whose hair is being cut, and which is adapted to be also connected with a water suppl and drain for use. in shampooing or washing of the hair, whereby the waste water iscar ried away.

The object of the invention is to provide a vacuum apparatus including an exhaust fan and a trough-like collar adapted to be placed around the'neck of a person whose hair is being cut, and arranged to be connected to said exhaust fan whereby the hair clippings falling into said trough-like collar are immediately carried away, vision being made for connecting hair clipers, combs or the like to the vacuum fan or-preventing hair clippings from falling upon the face or person, means being also provided for connecting said trough like colar to a water su ply and drain whereby the same may be use in washing or shampooing the hair, a continuous supply of water being provided, and the waste water being continuously carried away.

The vacuum apparatus, as illustrated in Fig. 1, may be supportecl'upon a' bracket or upright 11, and comprises the motor 12, and the fan casing 13, the shaft 14 of the motor extending through the partition Wall 15,

T e inlet eye 17 of the fan .casingvma-y be centrally disposed with reference to the fan 16, and a hose 18 connected thereto for attachment to the apparatus, as hereinafter described. The fan casing is provided in usual manner, with an exhaust opening 19 at one side, which may be connected to a tube or hose 20 for carrying away the exhaust from the fan.

The neck band, indicated generally at 21,

may be of soft rubber or similar material, of substantiallyeliptical trough or V-shape, and closed at the ends shape, being as shown at 22, a tubular portion 23 communicating with the lower end of the trough, and having a neck 24 substantially at its central portion for connection to the'hose 18. This neck band may be provided around its inside with a flap 25 of flexible material, adapted to fit closely around the neck of the wearer to prevent any loose hairs from dropping between the trough and the neck.

As shown in Fig. 5, when the device is used for cutting or trimming the hair, the

trough. is placed around the neck in 'the r positlon shown, the ends thereof substantially meeting at the front, whlle the tube 18 extends from the rear of the neck band to the inlet opening of the exhaust fan 16. As the hair is clippedor cut the clippings will dro into the V-shape trough 21 and be carried y suction around the open tube 23 and into the outlet tube 18,.fro1'n whence they willbe exhausted through the vacuum fan. 1

-When it is desired, to use the device for washing or shampooing the hair, as shown in Fig. 6, the vacuum tube 18 is disconnected and a draintube 18 is connected to the out let 24 of the neck band.

The neck band 21 may-be provided on each sidewith loops 26, through which hot and cold water tubes 27 may be passed, these tubes being provided at one extremity with connections 28, by means of which they may be attached to hot and colt water fau cets, the other ends of said tubes being connected to a Y-head 29, to which is connected an invertedU-shape pipe 30, provided with a spray nozzle 31, by means of which water of any desired temperature may be sprayed upon the head of a person, the waste water being received in the V-trough 21 and carried to a drain through the tubenected to the usual form of hand operated hair clippers 32. 7

In Fig. 8 is shown a special manually operated clipper, one handle 37, of which, is

tubular :for the connection of the vacuum 1 tube, and in Fig. 9, a housing 38 is provided for connecting the vacuum tube to the usual electrically operated clippers 34.

A funnel 39, as shown in Fig. 10, may be connected to the vacuum tube, and the comb 35 may be rigidly connected to said funnel, whereby as the comb is passed through the hair whichis trimmed or cut by means of scissors, the hair clippings will drop into the funnel 39' and be conveyed through the vacuum tube to the exhaust fan.

I claim: 7

1. A device of the character described in cluding a -V-shape trough arranged to be placed around the neck'of a person, a tubular channel communicating at one side with the bottom of the trough and a suctiontube connected to the central portion of said channel. 7 y

2. A device of the character described including a V.-shape trough arranged to be placed around the neck of a person, a flexible flap around the inside of the trough, a tubular channel communicatin at one side withthe bottom of the troug and a suction tube connected to the central portion of said channel.

' 3. A device of the character described including a vacuum apparatus, a trough-like neck band connected to the vacuum apparatus, and hair clippers connected to the vacuum apparatus.

4. A device of the character described including a vacuum apparatus, a trough-like neck band-connected to the vacuum apparatus, a funnel connected to the vacuum apparatus and a comb carried by said funnel.

5. A device of the character described including a V-shape trough arranged to be placed around the neck of a person, an outlet tube connected to the trough and means upon the trough for supporting a tube adapted to spray Water upon the head of the wearer.
