Description

Oct. 27 1925- B. W! KLEIN v WAITING BOOTH FOR STORES Filed Feb. 27, 1 .923 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 INVENTOH I ATTORNEY Patented Oct. 27, 1925 UNITED STATES 1,559,256 PATENT OFFICE.
V BENJAMIN w. KLEIN, or MOUNT VERNON, New YORK.
WAITING-BO OTHK-FOR sronns.
Application'filed February 27',-1 23.' Serial No. 621,568.
ing Booths for Stores, of which the follow-L ing is a specification. w
' This invention relates to means for pro v viding a comfortable resting'place for a customer in stores, while being waited upon, and is especially designed for use in shoe selling, or shoe repairing stores, to enable a customer to remove his shoes and have them repaired, while he waits, and afford a certain amount of privacy, and freedom from disturbance by others. In matters of this nature customers desire privacy, particularly in respect to their feet when their shoes are removed.
To this end I provide a waiting booth, the essential features of which consist of an enclosure, providing a seat, an extension chamber in front of the seat, and means for open ing and closing the front of theenclosure, whereby the feet and a body portion of the customer remain hidden from view, when the booth is occupied, and whereby access to the booth can be readily had by the cus tomer and by the shoe salesman or repairer.
Further, objects are to provide amovable booth which may be conveniently placed in a store, and where a plurality of such booths are used, they may be arranged back to back or side by side. The adaptability of placement of such individual booths in the manner desired renders their use very advantageous.
The booths are also provided with means to shield the face. and upper part of the body, should it be so desired.
iVith these and other objects in view, an embodiment of my invention is shown in the accompanying drawings and hereinafter more fully described in the specification.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1, is a perspective view showing my new waiting booth, the door being shown in dotted lines to indicate its position when the booth is open.
Figure 2 is a plan of the device shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a vertical central section taken on th line 33 of Figure 2.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of a modified form of the device.
Figure 5 is a central vertical section of another modification of the inventioinIand Figure 6, is a perspective View of the device showing a modified form of entrance closure Like numerals indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views' Referringto the drawings, the embodiment of my invention shown therein comprises an enclosure, provided at the inside there-of with a seat 10. The sidewalls 11 are provided, which extend upwardly from the seat to about the level of the elbows of the average person usingthe booth, thereby providing a ;rest-12 forthe elbows or forearmsof the user.
The rear portion of the sidewalls is preferably extended upwardly above the main portion of said walls to form wings 18; and the back 14 is likewise extended above the height of the main portion of the sidewalls as at 15 to form a shield for the back, sides, and head of the user.
If desired, a collapsible fan structure 16 may be provided adapted to be called into action at will, to give complete privacy to the user of the booth and shield the user from draughts.
The sidewalls are extended forwardly of the seat to form an extensive chamber, the forward ends of the walls being provided with a hinged door 20, which provides easy access to the interior of the booth. Instead of the door I, a roller shade or shutter structure 21 may be provided such as is shown in Figure 6. c
The sidewalls may, if desired, be extended downwardly'close to the floor as shown at 1"? in Figure 4-, and if not extended close to the floor, they are preferably provided with short legs 18 making a sanitary structure.
Vhere the side walls are extended close to the floor a bottom or floor 19 may be used, thereby providing a booth enclosed at all sides save at the upper portion thereof.
The booth may be provided with afoot rest of any suitable construction, preferably in the form of a shelf 22 mounted upon the door or otherwise, within 'tlie'booth, and provided with a hinged connection 23 so as to be adapted to be folded up against the door or wall of the enclosure, when desired.
The booth may be arranged to be movable from place to place, or made stationary, I
and may be built in units of two or more as desired.
lVhen arranged in groups the booths may be placed adjacent to each other in single rows, and arranged along a wall or other part of a room, or in two rows, back to back, along the center of the room, or in whatever position the size and form of the store may allow; preference however being given to such an arrangement as will enable a cus tomer seated in the booth to have a full View about the store, and at the same time be hidden from View.
The booths may be employed for use in stores or va 'ious kinds, such for instance as the clothing line by varying the height of thewalls of the booths.
I have herein illustrated and described the preferred and most satisfactory embodiment of the invention, but changes may be made therein without "departing from the scope thereof as defined in the following claims.
i'ihat I claim is 2- 1. A waiting booth for stores consisting of an enclosure providinga seat, a back for said seat, sidewalls extending upwardly from and forwardly of, said seat, a movable closure for the forward end of said booth, a "foot rest mounted upon said closure and a toldable screen mounted upon said sidewalls at the rear-end thereof, the rear ends of said sidewalls, and back of said seat, being extended above the height of the main portion of said sidewalls.
2. A waiting booth for stores, consisting of an enclosure providing a seat, a back for said seat, sidewalls extending upwardly from, and forwardly of said seat, a door connected with the forward end of one of said sidewalls, and a foot rest pivotally mounted upon said door, the rear ends-of said sidewalls, and back of said seat, being extended above the height of the main portion oi said sidewalls.
In testimony that I-cl'aim the foregoing as my invention, I have signed my name hereunder. I
BENJ. V. KLEIN.
