APERTURE SIGHT.

Be it known that 1, ROBERT Kmu: JOHN- STON, a subject of King George V of Great Britain, residing at Dowling Street, Dunedin, in the Dominion of New Zealand, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Aperture Sights, of which the following is a specification.

The object of my invention is to provide an aperture sight to eliminate defects caused by a shadow frequently occurring in the aperture and obscuring it.

A further object is to provide a better focussing eflect, and to obviate eye-strain experienced when using the existing cup peep sight.

In existing sights there is an apertured knurled disc adapted to be housed in a bracket member. This disc has either a concave or a flat surface, both of which are detrimental to accurate shooting, as in both cases a shadow in certain lights gathers on the disc, thus tending to obscure the aperture.

My invention may be applied to the directly attached plain aperture sight, and to the combination Vernier and aperture sight attachment. The improved aperture sight may also be readily fashioned to fit existing types of rifles.

Figure 1 indicates the invention fitted to the combination vernier aperture sight attachment.

The invention comprises a cap member 1, of any suitable metal, the larger end of Serial No. 601,325.

which is dome shaped, as at 2, and the Smaller end suitably threaded as at 3, so that it may be securely housed in a bracket or the like member of the rifle sight attachment. There is an aperture 4 of suitable size extending from both ends of the cap member 1, to about the centre thereof, where it is divided by a thin partition l- A smaller hole 4 communicates between the partitions 4 forming an aperture through which an object aimed at may be sighted. The peculiar construction of my improved sight prevents shadows in any light obscuring the aperture, and always allows a clear view of the target, thus greatly assisting accurate sighting.

\Vhat I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. As a new article of manufacture a sight, comprising an apertured member having an. enlarged and convex dome-shaped end, the apgrture extending through the dome-shaped en 2. As a new article of manufacturea si ht, comprising an elongated member having a longitudinal bore and provided with an enlarged and convex dome-shaped end, the bore of the member being of uniform diameter throughout, extending through the dome-shaped end and provided with a partition having a small aperture therein.

3. As a new article of manufacture a sight comprising a member having one end enlarged and convex dome-shaped and its other end reduced and screw threaded, the member being provided with a longitudinal bore of uniform diameter throughout its length and with an apertured partition in said bore at about its center of length.
