BINDER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, LESTER C. GREEN, a

, citizen of the United States, residing at Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented a new and useful Binder; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full clear, and exact specification, such as will enable others skilled in theart to which it appertains to make and use the same.

The invention is a clip binderfor checks or the like in which both ends of the clip are rigidly attached to the back of the binder.

The object of the invention is to provide a binder for checks or the like in which it will be impossible to remove the stubs without tearing.

Another object of the invention is to provide a binder in which both ends of the clip are rigidly attached to theback.

A further object of the invention is to provide a clip binderof a simple and economical construction.

With these ends in view the invention embodies a binder having a clip which'is constructed of asn-iall tube bent in the shape of a U with roughened tacks placed through the back and into the ends of the tubes and the ends of the tubes crimped around the tack.

Other features and advantages of the invention will be seen from the following description taken in connection with the drawings, wherein 5 of the tacks are roughened as shown in Figure 2 so that when the ends oi the tube 1 are crimped or bent as shown at the points v6 and 7 the tube will firmly grip the tack and thereby rigidly hold the ends of the clip to the back 8 of the binder.

It will be understood that changes may be made in the construction without departing from the spirit of the invention. One of which changes may be in the design of the clips; another may be in the use of any suitable number of clips; and still another may be in the design of the binder.

The construction will be readily under-' stood from the foregoing description.

To use the device the binder may be constructed with the checks or the'like in place and it will be seen that it: would be practically impossible to remove and replace any of the sheets without tearing them or destroying the binder. It will also be seen that this would provide abinder similar to a loose leaf binder in which all of the sheets may readily be examined all the way back and at the same time provide a binder of a very simple and economical construction.

Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is I 1. A binder, comprising a back, a plurality of leaves thereon, a tubular substantially U-shaped metallic clip carried by the back and having one leg only extending through registered perforations in the leaves, said leaves capable of being moved r-along said leg and turned over on to. the

other leg, and means for permanently securing each leg of the clip to said back including a roughened tack piercing the back with its head at the outer side of the back and its shank entering one of the tubular tween the head of the tack and the bottom 1 end of the leg.

As a new article of manufacture, a fastening dcvice for the leaves of binders, comprising a' substantially U-slu ped tubular sheet metal clip, the end of each leg of the clip being open, and a pairof tacks capableof being inserted 'within the open ends of the respective legs, the shank of each tack being pointed at one end for iercing a binder-back, and said shank also eing provided with a roughened portion on which a leg portion may be crimped.
