J. B. LEBRUN nOonLoCK Filed Oct. 12, 1922 M5 4 /Z /0 W4 ZN J ATTORNEY Patented Oct. 20, 1925.
PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH B. LEBRUN, OF BERLIN, NEW HAMPSHIRE.
DOORLOCK.
Application filed October 12, 1922.
To all 'wliom 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnrir B. LEBRUN, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city of Berlin, State of New Hampshire, hare invented new and useful Improvements in Doorlocks, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to door locks, and it provides a locking means for two doors, opening side by side from the same room.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is an elevation showing two doors, spaced apart side by side and opening out of the same room.
Figure 2 is a detail of the lock bar.
The invention consists of nailing or otherwise securing a cross brace 1 above the two spaced doors 2 and 3, which open outwardly and away from said brace, one end a of the brace being fastened to the inner, vertical casing strip 5 of the door 2, while the other end 6 is extended across the door 3 and fastened to the outer vertical casing strip 7. A slide rod 8 is slidingly mounted. over the brace 1, being held in sliding relation therewith by means of bands or loops 9 which are rigidly joined to the brace 1 at their lower ends, and are pierced with holes 19 at their upper ends through. which the rod 8 slidingly passes. The rod 8 carries hooks 10 both turned or pointed in the same direction, and so as to simultaneously engage the screw eyes 11 set in the two doors, as the rod is moved toward the left hand. A spring 12 normally holds the rod 8 over to the right hand and so the hooks Serial No. 594,008.
10 clear the screw eyes 11, and thus nor mally hold the doors unlocked. A cord 18 is fastened to the left hand end 13 of the slide rod 8 and extends over a roller lt on the outer casing strip 15 down to a knob 16 also on said strip. An additional lower knob 17 may be provided to which to fasten the cord 18 when the doors are locked. Ordinarily the doors will stand unlocked thru the action of the spring 12, and in order to lock the doors 2 and 3, the cord 18 is pulled, thus drawing the hooks 10 into the eyes 11, after which the end of the cord is secured to one of the knobs 16 and 17.
1V hile I have herein described a certain specific method of constructing and assem-- bling the elements of my invention, it is understood same may be varied in minor details, not departing from the spirit of my invention as defined in the appended claim.
hat I claim to be new and patentable is:
A door lock for two doors spaced apart, comprising a brace fastened across the tops of thedoors; a rod slidingly connected with the brace; resilient means for holding the rod toward the right hand side; a screw eye in each door'adjacent the rod; a hook in each end of the rod and directed so as to engage said screw eyes on the left hand movement of the rod; a roller and a knob attached to the left hand door casing; and a cord fastened to the sliding rod and extended over the roller, with its lower end adapted for fastening to said knob.
JOSEPH B. LEBRUN.
