Be it known that I, Trronms H. Srnourya citizen of the United States, residing at tains to make and use the same.

The invention is a. dancing character doll which may be made of wood or any suitable materialin which all of the joints are loosely dovetailed togethen The object otthe invention is to construct dancing doll in which the joints permit the members to move in any twodirctions, while at the same time they are constructed sot-hat they will not break or come apart easily.

Another object of the invention is to construct a doll with every joint constructed so that the members are free to move and with every joint so constructed that the tongue from one member is held in a slot in the member to which it is joined so that there is a bearing on each side of it.

Another object of the invention is to construct a jointed doll whose arms are held on a common member which may be placed thru a hole in the body of the doll, the ends of which men'iber fit into slots in the upper ends of the arms and .tasten to them by driving pins thru the center of each, which construction will lock the member in the body while at the same time it will be free to turn in the hole in the body.

And a still further object of the invention is to construct a dancing doll with loose joints, the faces of which may be made to imitate any characters desired.

Vith these ends in view, the invention embodies a piece of material in the shape of the trunk of a persons body with a head on it, whose arms are jointed at the elbows and pivotedly mounted at the shoulders on a piece of material held in a round hole thru the body and whose legs are joined at the knees and held on pins in slots at the hips.

Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the "following description taken in connection with the drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a trout elevation.

In the drawin g's I have shown my device as it would be constructed wherein numeral 1 indicates the body which may be narrowed down at thepoint 2 to term the neck and 69 on top of this the head 3 may be formerly The head and neck may be made in a lathe as they may be round with the exception of a ridge which is left a-roundthe head to allow the material for the ears and nose. Thebalance ot the head may then be shaped up to conform to the shape of any caricature desired. The lower portion of the body 1 may be flattened and tapered towards the sides to resemble the shape of a body. In the upper side of the body at a point about -where a persons shoulders would occur a hole 4 is made thru the body andin this] hole-a bar 5 may be placed whose ends are flattened and rounded asshown in Figure 2. On these ends, members 6 resembling the upperarm-and having slots 7 in their upper ends may beplaced and pivoted by the pins 8. Then these are in place, it will be seen that the bar 5 will be locked in place so that it will be prevented from slipping out of the body while at the same time it will be free to rotate in the hole 4. V The members 6 are free to move outward or inward about the pins 8 and may be moved upwardor downward by causing the bar 5 to rotate in the hole 4:. In the lower ends of the members 6 are slots 9 into which the ends of the members 10 are placed which form the lower arms and these are pivotally held in place by the pins 11. These members 10 may be straight or may be shaped to conform to a persons forearm and fingers or a hand may be shaped on the outer ends. These are free to move upward or downward in the slots 9 about their pivot points formed by the pins 11. In the lower end of the body 1. are two slots 12 in. which the upper ends of the members 13 may be held by the pins 14;. These members may be straight or shaped to conform to the shape of a persons thigh. The width of the upper ends of these members is smaller than the width of the slots into which they fit so that they will be free to move backward and forward. about their pivot points formed by the pin 14. The lower ends of the members 13 have slots 15 in them into which the upper ends of the members 16 are pivotally held. on pins 17. These members 16 may be shapedto conform to the lower section of a persons leg with boots on the lower end. The upper ends of these members are somewhat narrower than the slots 15 so that they will be free to move about their pivot points formed by the pins 17.

A hole 18 may be placed thru. the center of the body 1 thru which a wire may be placed to support the doll and if the wire is vibrated the members of the dollwill move upward or downward and backward and forward so as togive it the appearance of dancing.

It will be understood that changes may be made in the construction without departing from the spirit of the invention. One of which changes may be in the design or shape of the head, the hands or feet. Another may be in the placing of the pins in the joints all of the way thru and riveting them on each end and still another may be in the omission of the hole 18.

The construction will be readily understood from the foregoing description. To

use the device it may be assembled as shown and if the body is held in ones hand and the hand quickly moved upward and downward the arms and legs of the doll will move upward or downward and backward and forward or if it is placed on a piece of wire or cord it will produce the same action as hereinbefore described.

Itwill be observed that by constructing the joints in this manner there will be no overhung joints as each member will project into a slot in its adjoining member so that the pin on which it is pivoted will have a bearing on each sideof it;

Having thus fully described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In a dancing character doll of the class described, a body portion having a head made integral therewith, a circular transverse opening through body at the shoulders and slots in the lower end, a ,pin with flattened ends rotatably mounted in said opening, cylindrical members having slots through the ends pivotally attached to the ends of said pin and forming the upper arms, other members plvotally mounted in the slots at the lower ends of the up er arms and forming the fore-arms, other cy indrical members with slots in their lower ends and their upper ends flattened and pivotally mounted in the slots in the lower end of the body forming the thighs of the legs, and other members with feet formed at one end and their opposite ends flattened pivotally mounted in the lower ends of the members. forming the thighs.
