UNITED STATES ALBERT J'. FLECKENSTEIN, OF HOUSTON, TEXAS.
SASH HOLDER.
Application filed July 28,
Be it known that I, ALBERT J. FLECKEN- STEIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Sash Holder, of which the following isa specification.
This invent-ion relates to new and useful improvements in a. sash holder.
One object of the invention is to provide a device of the character described adapted to be applied to a window casing and to operate against the window sash to hold the same in any desired position, that is, in closed, opened, or partly opened position.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide av device of the character described designed to make the use of the ordinary window weights unnecessary.
A further feature of the invention is to provide a device of the character described which is of neat appearance. and simple construction and may be cheaply produced and easily installed.
lVith the above and other objects in view, this invention has particular relation tocertain novel features of construction, operation and arrangement of parts, an example of which is given in this specification and illustrated in. the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 shows a fragmentary side elevation of a window sash, mounted in a window casing, and shown partly in section, with the sash holder installed; and,
Figure 2 shows a transverse sectional view, taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings, wherein like numerals of reference designate similar parts in each of the figures, the numerals 1, 1, designate the side members of the window casing, with the sash 2 vertically slidable therein, in the usual way. There are the slots 3, 3, out through the sides 1, 1, of the casing and projecting through said slots are the brackets *1, 1, whose ends are outwardly turned and counter sunk into said respec tive side members so as to be flush therewith, and secured thereto by suitable screws, as 5. Aligned with the brackets 4 are the respective brackets 6, 6, which are located 1924. Serial No. 728,631.
behind, and spaced from said brackets 4:, and whose ends are outturned and secured to the brackets 4; by means of the screws . coil springs 13, 13, which hold the rollers The pressure ofv against the sash frame. these rollers will usually be sufficient to hold the sash at any point of adjustment in the 'window opening and at the same time the sash may be readily moved up or down. If the sash is heavy it may be found desirable to countersink a transversely corrugated lengthwise strip 14 in each side of the sash frame so that the rollers may rest in the depressions of said strips to hold the sash" against movement by gravity. The springs 13 will yield suflieiently to permit the said rollers to pass over the corrugations of said strips to permit the easy movement of said sash. The tension on the springs 13 may be regulated by the adjusting screws 7.
\Vhat I claim is 1. An attachment for window casings in cludinga pair of spaced brackets, means for securing one of said brackets to the window casing, means adjustably connecting said brackets, said brackets having aligned bearings, a fork carrying a roller, and whose" shank works through said bearing, and a yieldable member adapted to hold the roller of said fork yieldingly against a sash mounted in said casing.
2. An attachment for window casings including an outer and an inner U-shaped bracket, the free ends of'whose arms are outwardly turned, means adjustably connecting the outturned ends of corresponding arms, said brackets having aligned bearings, a fork, carrying a roller, and having a shank which works through said bearings, said shank having an abutment and a yieldable member around the shank between said abutment and the outer bracket.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
ALBERT J. FLECKENSTETN.
