FLUE CLEANER.

Be it known that I, GEORGE DILLM'AN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Raton, in the county of Colfax and `State of New Mexico, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Flue Cleaner, of which the following is a specification.

It is well known that in the ordinary flue consisting of a plurality of sections or otherwise there is always collected a coating of soot on the interior thereof which is the cause of numerous fires and this soot also greatly interferes with the proper draft passing through the flue for the fire.

The object of my present invention is to provide a simple, compact and inexpensive appliance which can be cheaply manufactured and readily inserted into any flue of standard make and which is adapted to be moved so as to scrape the soot from the interior of the flue.

With the above and numerous other objects in view my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and arrangement as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.

Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the flue 1 is provided with a horizontal portion 2 and the vertical portion 1, 1923. Serial N'o. 616,131.

3y all of which are of conventional construe-o tion and are merely illustrated here so that the operation of my invention may be more clearly understood. TheA flue cleaner consists of a shank 4 preferably of some substantially stiff wire which is twisted intermediate its ends so as to form two loops 5 which are spaced fromA each other. In the modification shown in Figure 2 one end of n the shank is bent as at 6 to form a handle so that the device may be more easily reciprocated. This modification has been constructed primarily for operation in the horizontal portion of the flue as shown in Figure 1 and the end of the shank is extended through an aperture 7 so that the device may be reciprocated and the loops engage the interior of the flue sections scraping the soot therefrom.

The modification shown in Figure 3 is designed for use in the vertical portion 3 of the flue and is constructed at its end with a coil 8 and an arm 9 extending therefrom terminating in handle 10. The yarm 9 slightly diverges rfrom the shank 4. This arm 9 is adapted to penetrate an opening l1 n in the vertical portion 3 of the flue and thus the arm may be moved to the dotted line position as shown in `Figure 1 and then returned thereby reciprocating the cleaning device. f

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is 1- An attachment for cleaning the interior of a flue formed from a single strand of wire so as to include a shank disposed within the flue and bent `intermediate its ends to form a loop and a coil, said shank being bent at the coil to provide a straight arm extending at an acute angle to the remaining portion of the shank and through a close fitting aperture in the flue to terminate exteriorly thereof so that by movement ofthe exterior end of this arm the loop may be moved with`- in the flue. l
