ELECTRIC HEATING MACHINE.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDMUND SoHRonnR, a citizen of the German Republic, residing at Berlin, in the Republic of Germany, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Electric Heating Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates in general to electric heating devices and in particular to the clamping means of the same. The present invention relates especially to such clamping devices as described and shown in my pending United States application Serial- Number 1827 10, which relates to a device for heating forging pieces by electric resistance heating.
My invention is illustrated, by means of example, in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective illustration of the improved clamping device, and Figure 2 is a similar illustration showing a modified form of construction.
0 c (Fig. 1) are horizontal extensions of the poles 0 d of the electric apparatus, upon which are arranged sleeves encompassing the pole extensions like clips and having each a cylindrical extension 2. These latter extensions are bipartite, as shown, and each of their gaps s communicates with the slot of the respective sleeve.
The extensions 2 serve as supports for the clamping devices proper, of which one is shown in the right-hand half of Figure 1. This device (as well as the other one not shown) consists of a lower clamping member a and of an upper clamping member 5 which is displaceable upon a guide member j upon which it may be displaced by a threaded spindle The guide member j forms at its lower end a sleeve j which encompasses the extension a of the sleeve 7/. It is obvious that by clamping fast a work piece between the clamping members a and Z) the sleeve y is clamped fast upon the pole extension 0, because the halves of the sleeve extension 2 are pressed one against the other whereby the width of the slot of the sleeve is appropriately narrowed, this sleeve being, thus, firmly clamped to the extension 0.

be connected with each other by a screw, preferably with a counter-sunk head (not shown), located in front of the clamping member a and serving to press the sleeve y fast upon the pole-extension 0 independently of the clamping member I).
It is obvious that with this arrangement the clamping devices may not only be turned in a vertical plane upon the pole extensions 0, and may be horizontally displaced upon them, but each pair of clamping cheeks (a and b) may be turned in a vertical plane (standing at right angles to the just1nentioned vertical plane) upon the sleeve extentions 2 and may be horizontally displaced upon them (at right angles to the sleeves The shiftableness and adjustability of the clamping cheeks is, thus, considerably enhanced.
The clamping devices (a 7' 7' b) may be drawn 0d the extensions 2 without special disconnections and may be replaced in the easiest manner by other clamping devices, or clamping cheeks respectively.
The shiftableness and adjustability may be still more improved by making the pole extensions 0 horizontally movable in the manner shown in Figure 2, in which each extension is provided at its inner end (where it is to be attached to the pole) with a pivot to adapted to turn in a clip 1) attached to the respective pole. This arrangement is, it is true, applicable only in cases where the lengthof the extensions 0 is so limited that providing special supports for their outer ends may be dispensed with. But as regards apparatus of comparatively small dimensions, the increased shiftableness and adjustability increases also the use fulness of the device, especially where the lengths of material to be electrically heated are comparatively short.
Having now described my invention, what I desire to secure by a patent of the United States is:
1. The combination with an electric heating machine having pole extensions and work clamping members, of means for connecting said work clamping members to said pole extensions, said connecting means each comprising a sleeve adapted to encircle a pole extension, and a cylindricalextension formed with each sleeve supporting said work clamping members whereby when work is retained between said clamping members said sleeves Will be locked to said pole extensions.
2. The combination with an electric heating machine having a pole extension, a sleeve encirelin said extension, a cylindrical extension formed with said sleeve, said eylindrieal extension consisting of two bifurcated members, and a pair of work clamping members arranged about said cylindrical extension whereby when work is retained between said clamping members said bifurcated members will be forced together and said sleeve retained against movement upon said pole extension.
