GUY-WIRE GUARD.
Application filed November 20, 1924. Serial No. 751,032.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BEN H. HUGHES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Seward, in the county of Seward and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gu -Wire Guards; and I do declare the followlng to be a full, clear, and exact descriptionof the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to guy wire guards and the primary object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive, easily applied guard for the guy wire which will also serve as a telltale or warning to prevent pedestrians from accidentally running into the wire.
The invention consists in the novel construction of the guard and the method of applying it. The invention will be clearly understood by reference to the following description in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a guy wire and a guard showing the method of applying the guard.
' Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the guy wire and guard, and tying wire at about completion of the application of the guard.
Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view through the guard and the guy wire showing one of the stay wires in place.

Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the guy wire guard.
The guy wire 1 represents a guy wire for any purpose, such as for steadying poles or other structures. One end of the guy wlre is fastened to the pole or other structure and the other end is fastened to an anchor 2 having an eye 3 which receives a loop or bight 4 in the end of the wire 1. 'The loop is held in place b a clamp 5 secured to the loop bybolts 6. his is all old construction.
The guard which constitutes the subject matter of my invention is shown as consistmg of an elongated grooved member 11, the groove 12 having an enlarged portion 13 at its lower end, the grboved portion terminating a short distance from the bottom of the member 11 to provide a flat end 14 and a shoulder 15. The groove 12 receives the guy wire and the enlarged portion 13, the bight.
The shoulder 15 rests upon one end of the clamp 5 and the flat portion 14 rests against the face of the edges of the clamp. Therefore the guard is supported by the clamp. It is fastened to the guy wire by stay wires 17, there being two shown although as many may be used as is found expedient. The sta wires are looped about the guy wire an have their ends passed through the open-' ings or perforations 19 in the guard. The ends 20 and 21 are then spread apart and bent back upon the guard as shown in Fig. 4, then twisted and tucked in the groove 12 as indicated at 22, thereby securing the guard in place.
In actual practice I prefer to paint the guard with some conspicuous color, preferably white, so it will attract attention and thereby reduce the liability of pedestrians walking into the guy wire.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters-Patent is:
1. A guard for'guy-wires comprising an elongated grooved member to receive the guy-wire, the groove at one end being enlarged, the member having a flat'end extending from the portion adjacent to the.
around the guy-wire and pass through openings in the guard, the ends of the wires being bendable around the guardso that the ends can be twisted together and inserted in the groove.
4. In combination, a guy-Wire, an anchor, a member connecting the guy-wlre to the anchor, an elongated grooved guard to receive the guy-wire, the guard having a shoulder resting upon the end of the member 10 for connecting the anchor and guy-wire and a flattened portion to rest against one face of the member which connects the anchor to the guy-wire.
