H. M. RUDEN ExERcIsING APPARATUS Filed sept. 22, 1923 letented Aug'. 1l., 1925.
UNITED STATES isses/i9 HENRY M. RUBEN, OF ALLINGTOWN, CONNECTICUT.
EXERCISING- APPARATUS.
Application filed September 22, 1923.
To @ZZ whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY M. RUBEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Allingtown, in the county of New I-Iaven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Exercising Apparatus; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in-
Fig. 1 a front view of an exercising apparatus constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 a side view of the same.
Figs. 3 and l side views of modified forms of my invention.
Fig. 5 al front view, illustrating another modified form of my invention.
rThis invention relates to improvement in exercising` apparatus, and particularly to apparatus which includes resistances to be overcome by pressure applied through the hands and feet, and the invention consists in the construction as will be hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claims.
In carrying out my invention, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, I employ a base 10, on which is mounted an adjustable slide 11 supporting an upright 12, in which is mounted two foot- resistances 13 and 14, and two hand- resistances 15 and 16, these resistances comprising pads 17 and stems 18, extending through the upright and carrying springs 19. In this construction, a springseat 2Ov is provided and also'a back-resistance 21. Instead of a vertical upright for the resistances, they may be arranged on opposite sides of a triangular support 22, as shown in Fig. 3 of the drawings. In this case, the body-support 23 is adjustable vertically, and the footand hand-resistances are arranged on opposite sides; or, instead of having a triangular frame, a body-support 24 may be adjustably-mounted on a. post 25 and hand-resistances 26 and foot-resistances 27 be mounted in a platform 28; or, if desired, hand-resistances 29 and 30 may be arranged in a top-bar 81 of a rec- Seral No. 664,210.
tangular frame supported on a base 32, in which foot-resistances 33 and 311 are mounted, so that the person exercising will stand upright. In this case, a transverse bar 35 will be connected to the uprights 36 and 37 and carrying a body-supporting pad 38, as shown in Fig. 5 of the drawings.
In each construction, there is a body-support and two independently-arranged footi resistances and two independently-arranged hand-resistances, thus providing an exercising apparatus by which the various parts of the body may be developed.
I claim:
1. A11 exercising apparatus comprising a base and two independently-arranged footresistances and two independently-arranged hand-resistances supported on said base said resistances consisting of pads mounted on stems, and springs on said stems and adapted to be compressed by the movement of said pads.
2. An exercising apparatus comprising a base, a body-support and two independentlyarranged foot-resistances and two independently-arranged hand-resistances supported on said base, said resistances consisting of pads mounted on stems, and springs on said stems and adapted to be compressed by the movement of said pads.
3. An exercising apparatus com arising a base and an upright, two independently-arranged foot-resistances mounted in the upright, and two independently-arranged hand-resistances also mounted in the upright, Said resistances consisting of pads mounted on stems, and springs on said stems and adapted to be compressed by the movement of said pads.
Il. An exercising apparatus comprising a fra-me having a base` an upright adjustably connected therewith, independently-arranged handand foot-resistances mounted in said upright, a body-support, and backresistance also mounted in said frame.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HENRY M. RUDEN. lVitnesses i FREDERIC C. EARLE,
MALCOLM P. NICHOLS.
