L. A. HENTER CLIP AND 00MB Filed 0G13. 15, 1924 Aug. 4, 1925.
Patented Aug. 4, 1925a PATENT OFFICE..
LEO A. HENTER, OF HOT SPRINGS, MONTANA.
CLIP AND 00MB.
application filed October 15, 1924.
To all whom t may concer/a:
Be it known that l, Lno A. Irl-ENTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hot Springs, in the county of Sanders and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Clip and Comb, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in combs and clipstherefor.
The primary objectof t-he invention is the provision of a comb with an improved clip by means of which the comb may be attached to apparel of a person in a convenient manner so that the comb is entirely hidden behindv the apparel.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a novel detachable clip for combs or the like, which is of novel formation in that the art-icle which it is adapted to support may be hidden within a pocket, and yet attached to the flap of the pocket.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a novel type of detachable clip which may be used to support various objects, such as combs, pens, pencils and the like.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will be apparentduring the course of the following detailed description.
In the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, and wherein similar reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views,
Figure 1 is a cross sectional View taken through a garment, showing a pocket therein, and the relation in which the improved clip may support a comb in the pocket in attached relation to a flap of the pocket.
Figure 2 is an enlarged view, partly in section, showing novel details of the clip in its attached relation on a comb.
Figure 3 is a rear elevation of the clip attached to a comb.
Serial No. 743,800.
clip B, so that t-he comb may be supported in the pocket of a garment F.
The comb A may be of any approved construction, and includes the back 10, outwardly of which the spaced teeth 11 extend.v Adjacent an end edge 12 of the comb A, and inwardly of a side surface of the back 10, a pair ofrecesses 18 and 1&1 are provided, which are arranged in alignment longitudinally of the back 10.
The clip B is of a novel construction, and consists of a substantially U-shaped attaching portion 15, and a spring tongue 16 connected to the portion 15 by means of an arcuate bight 17.
The attaching portion 15 is preferably U- shaped, although the same need not necessarily be of this shape, since it may be of a ditferent shape when adapted to support an articlediiferent in structure from a comb. However, in the preferred instance the attaching portion 15 comprises the substantially parallel side legs 19 and 2O which may be of equal length, connected by an arcuate bight portion 21. The bight portion 17 which connects the resilient tongue 16 to the attaching portion 15 is attached, as at 23,k
contiguous with the legv 19 of the attaching portion 15, and so that the arcuate bight portion 17 extends upwardly in spaced relation above the bight portion 21 of the attaching portion 15. The bight portion 17 is struck from a larger radius than the bight portion 21, so that the tongue 16 extends downwardly along in spaced relation with the leg 20, and slopes inwardly as at 24 adjacent its free end, and at its free end is preferably provided wit-h a clamping ball 25.
Referring to the application of the improvedclip upon the comb A, the attaching portion 15 is slipped over the end of the comb A so that the spaced lugs 30 and 31, which are formed upon the inside surface of the leg 19, engage in detachable manner in the recesses 13 and 14 respectively of the comb A. The legs 19 and 9.0 of the attaching portion 15, of course, grip the back of the comb in a secure clamping relation, due to their inherent tendency to spring toward each other, and the bight portion 21 of the clip extends upwardly above the top edge of the comb. The bight portion 17 of the clip B extends in spaced relation outwardly .of the end of the comb, and the tongue 16 extends downwardly along the side of the coinb with the. ball 25 in clamped engage` nient against the side of the comb, substantially as is illustrated in Figure 2 of the drawings.
As to the application ofthe coinb and the clip upon the garment F, the coinb is slipped into the compartment of the pocket i'orined in the garment F, and isentirely..
hidden therein. The upper edge of the pocket flap l0 fitsinto the space` between the tongue 16 and the leg 2O of the attachingportion l15,- with the upper edgeoi the.`
flap ll() projecting into the space-immediately below the.` bight portion 17 fand. above the bight portion-21, so that the onlyporltion Visible exteriorly of 'the pocket is.- the springtongue 16. and the bight portionl 17.
From the-foregoing.; description of this invention it is apparentthat; a novel-type oi clip has been provided,- Whiclr cooperates in a novel inanner'with thel articleuwhich it is adaptedto support whereby to support the saine in novel and" detachable relation Within the pocket of a garinentorthe like.
Various changes in the shape, size7 and arrangeinent\oi parts .may be inade to the forni of the invention hereinshown .and described,- Withoutl departing 'from the: spirit of this invent-ion ,or the scope of ythe claims.
