FASTENING MEANS ronnoLLnnAns.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO (harm, a citizen of the Republic of Germany, and resident of lVa-ltershausen, in the State of Thuringia and Republic of Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fastening Means for Doll Heads, of which the following is a specification This invention relates to improvements in doll heads, particularly heads for walking and other dolls, and it is the principal object of my invention to provide a doll head which is exchangeable and allows a ready exchange of broken or damaged heads.
Another object of the invention is to provide an exchangeable doll-head which in no way interferes With the mobility of the parts and limbs of a doll but is bound to participate in their movements notwithstanding its exchangeability.
The known devices for securing the head of dolls on the body thereof, particularly with respect to walking dolls, were rigid or permitted only of a lateral displacement, it was therefore impossible to quickly and readily exchange a broken or otherwise damaged head.
This disadvantage is successfully overcome by the device constructed according to the present invention according to which the head is located or set into a socket or pan engaging a similar socket or pan of the upper part of the dolls body, and secured to the same by an elastic means.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a doll head of this character with means for connecting the same to the walking mechanism of the doll tending to exert a permanent and downwardly directed pull on said head, yet allowing a lifting of the head if it is desired to remove and re place the same.
These and other objects and advantages of my invention will become more fully known as the description thereof proceeds, and will then be specifically pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accom an ing drawing, forming a material part this disclosure:
A single figure shows one embodiment of my invention as an example with a fragmentary view of a doll head and body in longitudinal section constructed according to my invention,
Application filed April 19, 1924. Serial No. 707,622.
In the upper part of the body of a doll a socket or pan 11 is provided adapted to movably receive in its interior the head flange 12 of a cylindrical element 13 in the lower end of which the upper end of a hollow connecting member or intermediary part 14 is attached or made integrally there with. The lOWer end of the part 14 or member is secured in a socket 15 upon a connecting bar or loop 16 for the bars or rods 17 which execute a reciprocatory pendulum rlncfirement during the walking motion of the co A spiral spring 18 is located within member 14, and its upper end is formed into a hook 19 adapted to engage or grip over a cross-bar 20 within the doll head 21. The lower end of spring 18 is attached to the bottom of the socket 15 as at 22.
The operation of the device will be entirely clear from the above description: If it is desired to exchange the head, in case the same is broken or otherwise damaged, it will simply be necessary to detach hook 19 of spring 18 from bar or rod 20, so that the head may then be readily removed and separated from the bod and exchanged or repaired. It will be c ear that when said hook 19 is in engagement with cross-bar 20, the spring 18 will exert a permanent downward pull on the same pressing the head against the flange 12 of the element 13, so that the head will participate in all movements of'element 13 controlled by member 14 and its connection with the walking mechanism of the doll.
It will be clear that changes may be made in the general arrangement of my device and in the construction of the minor details thereof without departing from the scope and spirit thereof as specified in the appended claims, so for instance could the spring be replaced by a rubber string or elastic or other suitable means for the purpose intended.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a fastening means for securlng the head of a walking doll to its body, a socket or pan formed with the upper part ,of the body and having an opening in its bottom, a movable member, flanges at the upper end of said member for supporting it upon the 1 inner wall of said socket, a cylindrical lower end on said member extending through the said cross-bar, and a socket attached to :1 opening in said socket, a hollewelem'ent'separt of the Walkin mechanism to which cured in said cylindrical end and adapted the other end of sai spring is attached. 10 to be secured to the Walking mechanism 0f Signed at Waltershausen in the State of the d011, a cross-bar in said head, a spring .Thuringiaand Republic of Germany this Within said hollow eiement, a hook-shaped 4 h day f April A. D. 1924- upper end oiirsaid spring adapted to engage OTTO GANS.
