Description

June 23 3925. 1,543,656
c STREIB FLAG 6R FLOWER STAND Filed Sept, '7, 1921 suppoited.
Patented June 23, 1925.
1,543,65t PATENT o'FFioa.
" cimntns strains; or rioBoKEn, new JJERsEY.
FLAG or. FLOWER s'rann;
Application filedSeptember 7, 1921'.- Serial No. 499,005.
To all whom it may concern: Be itiknownithat I,.Grumais- Srarra, a citizen of the United Stattes, and. resident of Hoboken, county of Hudson, State of New Jersey, have invented-certain :new and useful.Improvements inFlag or Flower Stands.
The objects of this: invention are to pro vide a meansfor supporting-flags or flowers and a means that will be decorative. and .attracti've and one that will? offer :a reliable su'ppont. h V
A further ObjQCt JlS to-provide means for suppontingadevices of varying sizes, that is flags having different diameters of staffs or flowers in lar-ge or small bunches.
Another object is vto provide a support that will be flexible and that will allow a certain :azmount .o'f 1110161116111) to the device With these objects in'view, the following is what I consider the best means of carrying out the invention and the accompanying drawings should be referred to for a complete understanding of the specification which follows.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective View of my device, and
Fig. 2 a vertical, sectional view.
Similar reference numerals indicate like parts in all the figures where they appear.
As I desire that the devicewhich I am about to describe be'of cheap construction and light though ornamental, I am forming all of the parts thereof of paper, cardboard,
thin wood or sheet metal. I also prefer that all exposed surfaces be painted, decorated or suitably colored and if colored that a plurality of harmonious colors be employed which will add to the attractiveness of the device.
I also prefer that the device be constructed along oriental lines and as shown in the drawing I have selected a pagoda construction or shape.
This device as shown consists of a base member 3 formed from a sheet of material in general thickness or size and I have shown this sheet as oblon Extending upward from the base member 3 are side members 4 and 5 arranged parallel and of a width equal to that of the member 3. These upright members are supported upon the base member 3 by a sheet of material shownat 6, the edges of which are upturned as shown at 7. The member 6 is glued or otherwisefastened to the base l8 and: the -.uprights are glued or otherwise secured to the upturned portion 7 of the member 6. Y r
Extending over thetop of the anember s ends extendbeyond the outer surface-of the members taind 5. r
Secured. to the-member .8 is a plate 11, the edges '12 and 13 of which are turned downward to be glued or otheinvisefast'ened to the members 1- and 5 and additional short cleats or angled members '14 :and 15 may be secured to theouter surfacesof the members at and 5 and to the under surface of the top or cover member 8.
The centrally disposed square perforation 16 through the top member 8 and supporting member 11 is provided with strengthening flange 17 and will .be' again later referred to. v
At midheight the structure which is approximately mid-length the members 4 and 5 I place an intermediate partition '18 certain edges of which are downturned as shown at 19. The rear or inner-most edge.
20 the edges of which are inturned as shown at 21 and 22 to engage and to be secured upon the bottom supporting member 6 and the partition 18.
At the forward side of the partition 18 I arrange the narrow strap member 23 the ends of which are bent inward to be secured to the outer surfaces of the members 4- and 5 and to the outer surface of the 1nember 23 I secure a flexible strap hinge 24 which supports the cover 25 which closes the lower compartment or portion of the device, that portion under the center partition 18. I
IVithin the lower portion and secured to what may be termed theiloor is a socket member 26 which may be flanged or which may be secured by means of the angled member 27.
Receivable through the perforation 16 in the member 8 and the perforation 28 in the member 18 is a removable vertically. disposed device consist-ingof 'aflat member 29 the lower portion of which is tapered as shown at 30 and supported thereon is an open ended box shaped member 81 and in desired size.
The staff of the flag is received through the member 31, through the perforations 16 and 28 and rests in the socket 26 as shown by the dotted line and it will be understood that the member 29 carrying the box shaped member 31 may be removed and another substituted, the box shaped member of which is of different size and other modifications may be made Within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the principle or sacrificing the advantages of the invention.
Having carefully and fully described my invention what I claim and desire to obtain by Letters Patents of the United States is as follows 1. A device of the character described comprising bottom, top and intermediate members, a socket upon the bottom member, the top and intermediate members being provided with perforations in line with said socket and a removable and movable member received in said perforations, said removable member being tapered toward its lower end and having a box shaped socket thereon.
A flag holder comprising bottom and top and side members of equal width 'and' length and an intermediate member of less length than and approximately midway between said bottom and top member, said side members being arranged away from the ends of said top and bottom members and a movable and removable member extending through said top and said intermediate members, said removable member being tapered toward its lower end and provided with an open-ended box shaped socket secured thereon.
3. A flag holder comprising bottom, top and side members and an intermediate member dividing the space between the bottom and top members into two compartments, a cover member secured to said intermediate member for closing said lower compartment and a movable and removable member extending through said top and intermediate members and a socket member for receiving the lower end of a device supported by said removable member said socket being are ranged within said closed compartment.
Signed at the city, county and State of New York, this 6th day of September, 1921.
