'SEPARATOR STRIP FOR CONCRETE FLOOR. oONs'rRuofrIoN.
Application filed February 29, 1924. Serial N'o.'6951,885. i
for use in forming terrazzo mosiac floor,
walls, etc. l
One of the objects of my invention is to provide guide strip` which, when placed in position will remain standing until the material has been poured.
Anotherobject ofiny invention is toV provide a guide strip which is provided with improved means for locking the strip in the plastic composition.
F or the purpose of disclosing my invention, I have illustrated one embodiment thereof in the accompanying drawings, in which-,- Y
Fig. 1 `is a sectional view of a floor having one of my strips formed therein, the material being ready to receive the finishing` layer of plastic material;
Fig.l 2 is a side elevation of a strip embodying my invention;
Figj is a plan view, and
F ig. 4t is a perspective view.
In the embodiment of the invention illus trated I provide a strip l of fiat metal, pref.- erably brass, and thin enough to be iieXible.
This strip is provided at its top lwith a straight edge 2 which forms the guiding edge and towards its bottom has rpushed or struck up, a series of tongues 3 which are bent to extend transversely of the strip alternately on opposite sides of the strip and have their bottom edges 4L in the same plane as the bottom edge of the strip. The striking up or forming of these tongues leaves in the body of the strip, openings 5 and the shape of the tongue is such that one wall 6k of the opening is provided with a projection from opposite sides of the strip.
7 forming a top shoulder 8. This shoulder` is below the plane of the top of the tongue 3.
In use the strips are placed in position upon the usual concrete kand gravel floor bed'9, after which the base filler l() is poured between thestrips. f y
It will be noted that, due to the fact that the tongues 3 extend from opposite sides of the strip, they form a supporting means for maintaining the strip in vertical position and also provide a locking means for hold-rv ing the strip in place when the concrete or plastic material is poured. lVhen the concteteV is poured in place it flows in and through the openings and the shoulders S form additional locking means to rprevent vertical displacement of theribs even though the concrete l0 does not come above the top of the tongues 3.
After'the iiller l() is placed in position, the finishing filler maybe poured until. it is level with the top of the strips. Preferably before this finishing ller is poured the concrete or plastic material 10 is allowed to harden or set so that when the linishing filler is poured inposition the top or straight edge 2 of the strip is held sutliciently rigid to form a guide for the tool used inleveling ott'. the fioor.
I claim as my invention: 'n
A pattern andguide strip comprising a' strip of flat metalhaving a straight edge and having a plurality of tongues each struck up to extend transversely of the strip and leave an opening iu the strip, one wall of which is provided with an offset shoulder in a` plane below the plane of the top of the tongue, the bottoms of said tongues being in the same plane as the bottom of the strip` and the tongues being adapted to project In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand at Indianapolis, Indiana, this Sth day of February, A. Done thousandnine hundred and twentyyfour.
ARLANDO M. VANDIVIER.
