UNiTE WILLIAM D. MERCER, F DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR, BY HIIESHE ASSIGNMENTS, TO KELVINATOB CORPORATION, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, A CORPOMTION OF MICHIGAN.
COMPRESSOR UNIT.
Application filed June 23, 1924. Seriai No. 521,711.
To all whom. it may concern.
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM D. Manors,
-a citizen of the United States of America, and a resident of Detroit, in the county of Vvayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Imprm'ements in Compressor Units of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The adaptation of mechanical rcfrigerating systems to smell units suitable for installation in stores and houses has necessiteted the introduction into the systems heretoforeused of a large number of improvements particularly designed to decrease the attention required by the refrigerating system and to facilitate maintenance and operation thereof. My invention provides a fly-wheel an particularly suitable for use on the compressor unit of such an installation and reflective to equalize the load demand on the prime mover and also set up a current of air to incrcasc the capacity of the condenser. in the drawings accompanying this specification and forming a part thereof I have shown, for purposes of illustration, certain forms which my invention may assume. In these drawings:
Figure 1 is an end elevation of one form of my invention,
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 oi Figure 1,
Figures 3 and 4 are simiiar view: a second embodiment, wl'iiie Figure 5 is a section on the line 5---5 of Figure 4.
In order to equalize the loud imposed upon the prime mover hy the compressor it is desirable to provide upon the prime mo gcr a suitable ily-whc-.:l and in order to increase the circulation oi air through the condenser coil of the compressor unit this i'lywvheel is preferably provided with means adapted to act as a fun to force air against the condenser coii.
In the (:onsti'wrtiofl shown in lfiigures l and '2 the liywheei 4!? comprises a rim and a wei) 51 formed from a singie piece of sheet metal and secured by means of suitable rivets 52 to a huh 53 securedin any sium'mg suitable manner to the prime mover shaft 18.-
This web 51 is provided with a plurality of upstanding pistes 54 struck therefrom and leaving in the web :31 corresponding apertures 55 through which the air engaged by the plates 54 iu "creed into contact with the condenser coil.
In the ily-wheei 49 shown in Figures 3 and 4 the rim 5 and web 57 are again formed from a single piece of metal and again secured by means of suitable rivets 58 to a hub 59 secured in any suitable manner to the prime n'iUYfil shaft 18 but in this construction the web 57 is provided with a plurality of apertures (50 in each of which is mounted a plate (31 standing at an angle to the plane of the weh 57 and secured in position by means of a plurality of lugs 62 formed integral with the plate (31, bent to contact the web when the plate (31 is in the desired position with the two edges of the plate iii projecting on opposite faces of the web 57, and secured, to the well :37 in any suitable manner as by spot welding.
From the above description it will he pi-ircnt that l have provided. an improved means For equalizing: the load upon the prime mover and simultaneously causing circulation oi air. At the same time, it will he obvious to those siiiiird in the art that the portion or cmiuuliments of my inveniion her n shown and iii 'rrihc-rl may he ranged and. mod Soil \vitl'iout de- -cm the i'ro ic of my invention or 'ihe ailviinlagcs the" '21 and it will therefore he uiulcrsloorl til: this dis rlosurc is illustrative only and that. my in vontion is not limited thereto.
l claim:
A ilvivheci an roinprising a rim, a hub, :i. wish C(HllHifiiillfl said rim and said huh and provii'lml with :i plureiity of apertures lllci'ctin'ougiu and a plurality of blades each positioned wit." in sa f apertures and exlending: at an uiigim to th plane of said web with its two i 'i'tii wl .s'projecting on opand means securing posiie sides oi said we each such iateral nigh-lo sziid Wei).
In testimony whcrcoi'. Ti h'ereuntoeilix my signature WILLIAM 1).. MERCER
