LINE INDCATOR F01?.- TYEEW'RITING MACHINES.
Application filed July 14, 1924. Serial No. 725,9591f.
To N 107101)@ Ah5 may concern Be it known that I, Vieron Konmar:- S'raminn, a citizen of the Republic ot' Switzerland, residing at Zurich, Switzerland, have invented certain new andA useful Improvements in Line Indicators ior Typewritingil lslachines, ot which the following is a speciiicati'on, reference being had therein to 'the accompanyinp,` drawing.
This invention relates to improvements in line-indicators tor typewriting` machines provided with copy-holders. The line indicator according' to the present invention comprises guid means to be tixed close toV thel typewritinp; machine in a substantially horizantalr position and approximately in the same. elevation as that 'in which the handset' the operator are.` an endless pulling' member 2rui-ded in said means, turther other guide means to` be iixed in. an upright direction on the copy-holder in which means the endless pulling` member is also `guided, a slide adapted to be guided in the first men tioned guide means and connected to one part of the endless pulling, member, and a second slide carrying the lineindicator and adapted to be guided in the second mentioned guide means and connected to the other part of the endless pulling; member.
A constructional example of the line indicator according; to the present invention and attached to a typewriting machine having a copy holder provided with a supporting` plate on which the typewriting machine rests, is illustrated on the accompanying drawings, in which:
Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the device,
Fig. 2 is a. side elevation,
Fig. 3 shows on an enlarged scale part ot the device and of the copy-holder, y
Fig. et is a section along line lV-IV in Fin). 3, and
Fig'. 5 shows part oit a modified embodimentot the line-indicator.
Referring now to the drawing, 1 denotes the supporting plate, madey for inst-ance ot wood and covered with a fabric or telt 2. To the plate 1 the. traine 3 'is liXed which is provided in its upper part with a swing'able stirrup e, the lat-ter is clamped frictiontig'ht in the :trame 3 so that it remains in every adjusted position. The copy-holder 5 is turnable and friction-tight on the stirrup and retained in every position.
6 denotes a rail fixed at one side of the plate 1. To the rail 6 a guide rail 8 is removably attached by means of resilient clampingV members T. The guide rail 8 extends trom the 'front to the rear and is arranged substantially horizontally. A slide 9 is displaceably mounted on the guide-rail 8, the lower ends 10 oi the slide being bent to embrace the guide rail 8 whereby the slide is Lguided on the rail 8. A part of the endless pulling member 11 is fixed to the slide 9 and the pulling member 11 passes, over a roller 12 on the rail 8 and i-s guided from the rear endY ot the rail 8 onwards by means ot two separate flexible tubes 14 and 13.
At one side of the copy-holder 5 a further guide rail 15 is removably attached by means oit' resilient clamips 16,. the rail 15 eX- tending in the upward direction. slide 17 is movable along the guide-rail 15 and is of a substantially similar design as the slide 9', i. e.,1 also provided with bent lower parts which embrace the rail 15. The pulling member 11 on leaving the other ends ofthe tubes 13 and lfl passes below the guide rail 15 andV around a roller 18 fixed tothe lower end ot rail 15; the slide 17 is also iXed to the pulling` member 11 which is endless. To the upper slide 17 at the c0py-holder a lineindicatoror rule 19 is rotatably mounted by means oit a crank 20. By turning the milled knob 21 the rule 19 may be turned from the position indicated in Figi'. 1 in full lines into that indicated in ehaindotted lines.
When the slide 9, which is conveniently arranged at the same elevation as that ot the hands oi the operator, is displaced in the direction of the arrow a? 2) a movement of the slide 17 and thereby ot the linewindicator 19 is caused in the direction of the arrow .1/ (Fig. 2) and the extent of the movements of both slides is equal to one another; the movements of the slides are exactly similar and are no step by step moven'ients. By moving the lower slide 9 the upper slide can be moved up and down by any desired amount so that the tire.- some direct displacement of the upper slide 1.7 to which end the hand has to be raised, `s no longer necessary. ln order to permit adjustments of the line-'indicator by any desired amount and in any direction the use of sprocketwheels, racks and the like has been avoided and a line-indicator is thus provided which is very simple and reliable and which can easily be adjusted.
VVithl the constructional `example illustrated in Fig. 5 a pivot joint 22 is inserted in the wire bent like a crank 20 so that the line indicator' 19 may be inclined to the horizontal.
Instead of carrying one of the guide rails at the side of the supportingI plate it may be arranged at the writing table, if no supporting plate is used or at the typewritinp, machine as will be readily understood.
I claim:
1; A line-indicator for typewriting machines provided with copy-holders, comprising in combination guide means adapted to be iixed close to the typewriting machine in a substantially horizontal position and approximately in the same elevation as that in which the hands of the operator are, an endless pulling,` member, further guide means adapted to be fixed in an Upright direction on the copy-holder, a slide adapted to be guided in said first mentioned guido means and connected to the endless member, and a second slide carrying a line indicator and adapted to be guided in the second mentioned guide means and connected to the endless pulling member.
l. A line-indicator for typewriting machines provided with copy-holders, comprisinp,` in combination guide means adapted to be iixed close to the typewriting machine in a substantially horizontal position and approximately in the same elevation as that in which the hands ot' the operator are, an endless pulling member, further guide means adapted to be lixed in an upright direction on the copy-holder, a slide adapted to be guided in said iirst mentioned guide means and connected to the endless member, a second slide comprisinga lincindicator and adapted to be guided in the second mentioned guide means and connected to the endless pulling member, and two tubular guides for the endless member interposed between said two guide means.
3. A line-indicator for typewriting machines provided with copy-holders, comprising in combination a guide rail adapted to be removably fixed by means ot' resilient clampingmeans close to the typewriting machine in a substantially horizontal position and ap-- proximately in the same elevation as that in which the hands of the operator are, an endless pulling member, a further guide rail adapted to be removably .fixed in an upright direction to the copy-holder, a slide adapted to be guided in said first mentioned guide means and connected to the endless member, and a second slide carrying a line-- indicator and adapted to be guided in they second mentioned `guide means and connected to the endless pulling member.
In testimony whereof I a'lix my signature.
VICTOR KOBLER-STAUDER.
