subsequent to the opening of the door for draft, the position of the attachment or screen being such as to eliminate the danger of the fire popping out on the floor, which frequently causes damage by fire of the building.
The nature and advantages of the invention will be better understood when the following detailed description is read in connection with the accompanying drawings, the invention residing in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts as claimed.
In the drawings forming part of this application, like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, and where- Figure 1 is a fragmentary view of a stove showing one form of the invention associated therewith.

Referring to the drawings in detail, and articularly Figures 1 to 3 inclusive, I have illustrated a stove of ordinary well-known construction indicated at 10. Stoves of this character are used in depots and other public places to a very large extent in certain parts of the country and it is a matter of necessity, to open the door 11, leaving the door open during the night for draft, and it frequently occurs that parts of the fire escape through the door opening onto the floor of the building, and sometimes results in damage by fire of the building. In accordance with the present invention, a protecting screen indicated at 12 is used, and arranged in the door'opening, subsequent to the opening of the door 11, to eliminate the possibil ity of the fire from popping out of the door opening under the conditions above mentioned. While the screen 12 may vary in size and configuration, it is preferably supported by fastening elements 13 secured to one side of the frame adjacent the corners thereof. Each of these elements consists in a metal strap which is provided with a plurality of openings lat, so that the elements can be adjusted with relation to the screen 12, to permit the latter to accommodate itself to door openings of different size. One end ofeach element 13 is secured to the screen by bolts or other suitable fastening elements, while the opposite end of each element is offset and spaced from the screen 12 so as to set behind the stove body with the screen arranged in advance of the door opening. In Figures 4 to 7 inclusive, I have illus trated a modified form of the invention, wherein the stove is indicated at 15, and provided with a'door 16. The door is hingedv to swing to one side of the door opening, while hingedon the stove at the opposite screen 17. Thisscreen is clamped between two frame-like members 18 and 19 respectively, which members are bolted or other wise suitably secured together by fastening elements 20. Theframe member 18 is provided with lugs 21 to form a hinge upon which the protecting element in its entirety can be swung to one side of the door opening, or to a position directly in'advance of the opening for the purpose specified, after the door 15 has been opened. The protecting element is provided with a rotatable latch 22 which is shaped to conform to the configuration of the stove, so that when the rotecting elementis swung to an active position, the resilient latch engages the stove body in a manner to hold the protecting element in a position for use. p
