To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that 1, NonLo ROBERT Cms,
a citizen of the United States, and resident o Toledo, in the county of Lucas andState 5 of Ohio, have invented newv and useful lfiindoW-Control Mechanism, which invention is fully set forth in the following specification. a
This inventionirelates to mechanism for raising and lowering windows, and isparticularly intended for use in connection with the windows of automobiles.
The object of the invention is the provi sion of a novel mechanism of the class de scribed, which is simple and inexpensive in its construction, composed ot few parts, and capable of being easily and quickly attached as a unit to the Window frame in the narrow space customarily provided therefor below the Window opening.
The inventlon is fully described in the following specification, andfwhile, in its broader aspect it is capable of embodiment in numerous forms, two embodiments only thereof are illustrated in the accompanying'- drawing, in whicln Y Fig. 1 is a fragmentary outer side elevation ofa window frame and associated window with the latter in artly lowered position and with a mechanism embodying the invention associated therewith.. Fig', 2 -is a1p vertical section thereof on the line 2 2 ,inlfligx L Fie'. 3 is a view similar to Fig". l showing a slightly modified form of window raising mechanism, and e is a section on,
the lineA--l in Fig. 3,
Referring to theI drawing, l designates a lwindow frame forming theiwindowopening in its upper portion and a. chamber in its lower portion into which latter the glass or other Window member 4r may be lowered- `from closing relation to the opening and in which the control mechanism. ior the window member is disposed,- as is customary.
At the upper inner side of thechamber 3 is located the ,customary lock-board 5, which extends crosswise of the Window traine, and a bracket plate 6 is screwed or otherwise suitablj,7 vsecured to the inner side of this board with its lowerv end projecting, in the present instance, a short distance be low the board. An arm 7 is pivoted to the lower extended end of the plate t3 for vertical rocking movements at the inner side i the loch-board in' parallel relation the;
and has its outer end extending toward the center of the lock-board and provided with a roller 8 on which the lower edge of the* Window member 4s rests. rlhe opposite end of thea-rm if" projects a short distance `from the arm nivot and is connected by a spring 9 to a. sulijacent portion oit the frame l to serve as a means for counterbalanciug the weight of tl'e Window member on the arm "l,
An operating:l lever l0 of bell. cranl; form is fulcrumed to the plate 6 distance above the arm l and has one projecting there from in the general direction of projection of the atan 7 from its pivot and connected, by a link. il to seid arm whereby the erm and lever are caused to have rocking movements in unison. The other arm of the lever l() projects upward trom its pivot and is connected to a horizontally shittable control member 12 by a pin and slot connection 13, whereby a horizontal shifting of the control member 'l2 imparts a. reciting movement to. the lever. rlhe upper end of the control member l2 is guided tor horizontal reciprocatory movements in a guide member 14 mounted on the tcp edge of the lock board 5, A stud l5 )rejects upward from the upper end of the niei'nher 12- through a longitudinally extending slot in the guide lei: and carries a handle 1G above the guide. This handle projects into the lower portion of the window opening 2 at the inner side ot the Window member and may be grasped to etl'ect a raising; or lowering `olf the :window member l, as may be desired. c
In Figs. 3 and l l have shown a slightly modified form oit thel invention, in that the lever 10 has its upwardly projecting' arm made in theY form ci' a segmental vpinion 20` and engaged by a 'rack-bar 2L which is mounted in a guide 'for shifting movements longitudinally oi the upper edge por- 'tion of the loclboard il ld stud proiects 'upward from. the raelobar thrcmgh a slot in the guide 22 and carries a handle 23.
llt is evident that in either form of the invention, :i shitting ot the control handle lengthwise of the look-hoard 5 communicates ai 'rocking movement to the lever 10' and ce that my sziiri'coniroi ineifiiziiiisni is exceedingly easy and simple tu operate and that iiis of such armature. iliiziii `it xiii be easily and quickly insziiicd in :l window frame or removed therefrom. for the purpose of substitution or ripnir.
' l wish it nnderstonil Limit my iiiveni'ion is not iimited so any specific construction, arrangement or 'forni o ine paris, is i'L capabie of niniirerous :modifications and iizinges without"departing from the Spiri of die iairn.
Having thus iiscriber.. my invention, what ciaim asriiew und desirs to secure iiy Lettere; Paieni, isf-1" A un tary wiiniiiw regni-Mug niirr'inanisxn for Winches consisting' of :1 support, i 'winfow nppnrtiiig arm pirated iiiLci-niedizii-e its ends to said Suppnrt und :idupcfl i0 engage .fne immer erige mi L 'windnw abone und www? thereof, ounterbaluiicing spring means cow 'a bell crank lever uicrunied on said, support,
means Connecting said iever and min whereby rotation of saidlever in one drewimi raises the windnw and in the other direcion pemniis iowering thereof, a connection im tween said lever and firm whereby inavvmciit oi' Suid lever in one direction ur iii@ other contro-is the raising sind lowering @if the windafw, a gear integral with siiglficvsfr, ai ruck bur meshing with mid, geur inr opifriition thereof, and ai guide on tire vehicle structure for rncciviiig tira ruck bar thoreby tu hold said bnr in operative eiigiigumuiii, with the guar.
in iosiiiiiony wheren' K have iwrunii; signed my naine tn this specification.
