CHRISTIAN BUEHLER, 0F LUXEMBURG, MISSOURI.
FLAG HOLDER FOR AUTOMOBILES.
Application filed September 28, 1921; Serial Ito. 503,927.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN BUEHLER,
a citizen of the United States, and residing at Luxemburg, St. Louis County, Missouri, have invented the new and useful Improvementin Flag Holders for Automobiles, of which the following is a specification,
This invention relates to flag holders or such devices as may be used for mounting flags and similar articles in a conspicuous place upon an automobile or any other desired locality.
One of the objects of this invention is to provide novel means for mounting a flag which shall be arranged to positively clamp the flag staff and to be securely mounted on the automobile orv other support.
Another object of this invention is to provide a flag holder which shall-be simple and cheap to manufacture, and reliable in its operation.
Further objects will appear from the detall description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 represents a flag'holder embodying this invention mounted for use;
Figure 2 is an enlarged perspective View of a flag holder embodying this invention; and i Figure 3 is a section on line 3-3, F igure 2.
Referring to the accompanying drawing, 1 designates the radiator of'an automobile having a filling spout 2 to which this device may be clamped.
The device consists of a strip, preferably of metal, formed as illustrated in Figure 2, to provide a loop 3 of a size andishape adapted to receive the flag staff, an extension 4 extending rearwardly from the loop 3 and a supporting clamp 5. Thesupport 5 is preferably formed into two oppositely curved arms or jaws adapted to embrace the spout 2 or any other similar support and is provided with rearwardly extending ears 6 drilled so as to receive a clamping screw 7.
The two arms of the clamp 5 are rigidly connected together by being soldered or otherwise attached to a. spacingblock 8 located between the two side members 9 of the extension 4. .This block 8 being rigidly connected to both arms makes it possible to clamp the support 5 securely to the spout 2 by means of the screw 7.
The block 8 also serves to space the two side members 9 from one another so as to i of and provide space thcrebetween in which a sliding clamping block 10 may operate. This block is provided with shoes 11 adapted to engage the upper and lower edgesof the members 9 so as to guide the block 10 therebetwcen. The block is also provided with a head 12 which may be recessed to receive the flag staff 13.
The block 10 is drilled lengthwise thereof to provide a-passage 14 for a screw 15soldered to the block 8 near the middle thereextending forwardly between the members 9. The block 10 is further provided with a window adapted to receive a knurled adjusting nut 16 which, after being inserted into said window, is engaged with the screw 15 thereby providing a means for adjusting the clamping block 10 backward and forward between the members 9. Said members are provided with windows 17 to accommodate the movement of the nut 16. v
In operation, the device is clamped upon the radiator spout 2 or any other suitable support by means of the screw 7 in a well known manner. The block by turning the nut 16 backward on the screw 15. After the flag staff is inserted invthe loop 3, the block 10 is again urged forward by means of the nut L6 to engage and positively clamp the staff 13 in the loop 3, the block 10 being guided in its movement in the extension 4' by the shoes 11. A rigid and secure mounting for a flag is thereby provided.
It is obvious that various changes may be made in details of construction without departing from the spirit of this invention; it is, therefore, to be understood that this invention is not to be limited to the specific details shown and described.
Having thus described the invention,what
is claimed is: v
1. A flag holder,
comprising. a flat strip formed to provlde,
at its middle portion a flag socket, at adjacent portions a n exten-- sion, and at Its terminal portions a loop,
10 is retracted adapted to embrace a radiator spout, a guide on said extension, a clamping abutment slldable along said extension and having a head engaging said guide, means for moving said abutment to clamp a flag staff in said socket and means for clamping said 100p upon a radiator spout.
3. A flag holder, comprising, a fiat strip formed to provide, at its middle portion a flag socket, at adjacent portions an extension, and at its terminal portions a loop adapted to embrace a radiator spout, a clamp slidable along andguided by said extension and adapted to clamp a flag staff in said socket, and means for clamping said loop upon a radiator spout.
4. A flag holder, comprising, a flat strip formed to provide, at its middle portion a flag socket, at adjacent portions an extension, and at its terminal portions a loop adapted to embrace a radiator spout, said extension having apertured side plates, a clamping abutment sliding between and guided by said plates, a manipulative elcment operable through said adapted o move said abutment to clamp a flag staff in said socket, and means for clamping said loop upon a radiator spout..
In testimony whereof I aifix my signature this 22nd day of August, 1921.
CHRISTIAN BUEHLER.
