CLIPPER ATTACHMENT.
Application filed May 12,
To all 107mm it may concern Be it known that I, CIIARLES citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clipper Attachments, of which the following is a specification. f
This invention relates to attachinentsfor hair clippers and more particularly to a novel and improved device whereby the hair may cut and thinned out, particularly in the ad: of the head so that the hair will be left at gradually increased lengths from the nape of the neck to the top of the head.
In the present practice of hair cutting or clipping, it is customary to use the hair clippers for a certain portion at the nape of the neck and the sides, subsequently thinning out or cutting the hair in different lengths with a pair of scissors. My invention therefore, is to provide an attachment for a conventional type of hair clippers whereby the hair will be cut in gradually increased lengths from the bottom upwardly, thus saving considerable time and doing the work more efficiently.
In the form of the invention shown and illustrated by the drawings Figure 1 is a side view of a hair clipper, showing the attachment in position.
Figure 2 is a front View.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan.
Figure l is a view of a slightly modified Z. Mani, a
form of the invention.
Figure 5 is a front view of the modified form, wherein the teeth are constructed on the bottom plate of the clippers rather than on the attachment.
Figure 6 is a view showing a variation on the form of the teeth looking at the front of the attachment.
Referring now to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout all the views. 5 designates the comb plate and 6 the cutting plate adapted to be actuated by the handle 7 of a conventional type of hair clippers. The comb plate and cutting plate are each provided with the front teeth 8, 9, between which the hair enter. as the clipper is advanced.
My invention proper comprises an attachment which may be positioned on the usual type of hair clipper and consists of the stationary guard plate 10 having upwardly referredto.
1924. Serial No. 712,855.
bent flanges 11, 12, formed" witlrthe sides of said plate whereby it may slid enthe bottom of the comb plate ,5, above The guard plate is formed with teeth, gradually increasing; in one side of the plate to the a series of length from opposite side as clearly shown, by Figures.
2 and3 of the drawings. The shorter teeth 13 are very. narrow opposite end of the guard, saidwshorter teeth being closer together so, that i the hair. will be clipped very close to the roots; Necessarily, the spaces between the respective teeth are of gradually increased width from one side of the guard to the other, the purpose of forming the teeth on the guard plate in the manner above described is to permit the hair to be cut evenly and regularly from the nape of the neck upwardly according to the prevailing method of properly clipping the hair. I The coarser teeth and those teeth which are spaced at a greater distance regulate the length of the hair being cut, it being of course understood that in the teeth of the clipper, the operator advances the same from the sides rather than from the bottom upwardly as is now the practice.
In the form of the invention as shown by Figures 4 and 5, I also contemplate the construction of the hair clipper having a comb be fric'tionally and finely ground" as compared w-i'tliithe longer teeth.- 14 at the;
plate 15 formed with the front teeth of 011 the opposite sides of said comb plate.
The same result is produced as in providing an attachment in the form of the guard as shown by Figures 2 and 3 of the drawings since the length of the hair to be cut is regulated. Of course in this formof the invention the cutting plate 18 is the same as the cutting plate 6, having front teeth which operate acrossteeth of the said comb plate. In Figure 6, I have shown the attachment, the frontedge of which is straight instead of at an angle as shown in. the other figures, this form of the invention also having the upwardly bent flange 19, 20, whereby it may be conveniently positioned on the conventional type of hair clipper. The preferred form of the invention of course resides in the attachment pensive to manufacture, is of general application and use in Various types of clippers permitting the hair cutting operation to be performed expeditiously and efficiently.-
hile I have illustrated and described my invention with some degree of particularity, I realize that in practice various alterations therein may be made. the rightand privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or other Wise altering the arrangement of the correlated parts without departing from the s )irit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by United States Letters Patent is 1. A hair clipper attachment comprising a guard plate having a plurality of teeth unlformly increasing in length from one side of the said plate to the opposite side, said teeth being of varying thickness.
2. A hair clipper attachment comprising a guard plate having side flanges for attach- I therefore reserve ing the plate to a clipper, the forward edge of the plate having a plurality of teeth of increasing in length from one side of the plate to the opposite side, each of said teeth gradually increasing in thickness.
3. A hairclipper attachment comprising a guard plate having upwardly and inwardly bent flanges for frictionally attaching the plate to a clipper, said plate having unitormly spaced teeth increasing in length from one side of the plate to the opposite side, said teeth.correspondingly varying 1n thickness.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
