CONCRETE STEP.
Application led June 14, 1923. Serial No. 645,247.
To all 'whom it may concern.'
Be it known that l, HARRY A. DALY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphitu'in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Concrete Steps, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to concrete steps and more particularly to interlocking concrete steps adapted' for use in stoops or stairways. The object is to provide steps made of concrete which are simple and durable in construction, easily and cheaply manufactured and easily assembled into a stoop or stairway.
This object, and other advantageous ends which will be described hereinafter, l attain in the following manner, reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which- Figure l is a central section through a stoop constructed of my improved steps,
Figure 2 a perspective view of a step constructed in accordance with my invention,
Figure 3 a fragmentary perspective view of the landing step with the securing means,
Figure 4 a perspective View of a reinforcing cage constructed in accordance with my invention,
Figure 5 a longitudinal central section through Figure 4, and
Figure 6 a section on line 6--6 of Figure 5.
Referring to the drawings, 1 indicates a wall of`a'-building, such as the wall under a doorway, having stoopwalls 2 extending therefrom and disposed at the opposite sides of the stoop. My improved steps 3 are superposedl and mounted on the walls 2. nlhe steps are locked to each other by interlocking means which comprise a shoulder 4 in the upper; meeting corner of one stepfor receiving the lower meeting corner of the superposed step, and having vertically projecting interlocking bars 5 adapted to take into vertical holes 6 in the corner of the in shape and has an arched part 12. Wire mesh 13 of any suitable character is secured to the upper and lower supports 10 and 11 to form a cage as shown in Figures 4, 5 and 6. The arched wire mesh 14 secured to the the other and the last step will hold the stoop or stairway in position by being secured to the wall as shown in Figure l. The reinforcing cage strengthens the steps and prevents cracking. rlhe arched under side of the step and the arched part of the cage make the steps light and rigid.
lWhile l have described my invention as taking a particular form, it will be understood that the various parts of my invention may be changed without departing from the spirit thereof, and hence l do not limit myself to the precise construction set forth, but consider that l am at liberty to make such changes and alterations as fairly come within the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. il stoop including conci-cte steps, the meeting corner of one step being provided with holes, the meeting corner of the other step being provided with a shoulder for receiving the corner of the first step, and vertical bars projecting from the shoulders and adapted to take into the holes of the first step.
Q. A stoop including concrete steps provided with an arched art in the under side, the meeting corner of one step being proi vided with holes, the meeting corner of the other step being provided with a shoulder for receiving the corner of the first step, and vertical bars projecting from the shou der and adapted to take into the holes of the first step.
3. A reinforcing frame for concrete steps including a rectangular upper wire support; a rectangular lower wire support having an arched part; Wire mesh secured to the upper and lower Wire supports adapted to cover Jche supports and form e cage, and interlocking bars secured to the upper Wire support and having one of their ends projecting upwardly.
4. The combination with e Wall of a ooni crete landing step; bolts embedded in the step and having their ends extending through the Wall; a plate spanning the ends, 10 and means for securing the bolts to the Wall. In testimony whereof I have signed mynzune to this specification in the presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
HARRY A, DALY. lNitnesses:
CHAS. E. PoT'rs, ELIZABETH GARBE.
