B. MAYOUX MACHINE FOR TREATING SKEINS OR HANKS IN DYEING ROOMS Filed Jan, 6, 1922 2 Sheets-Sheet 2 Patented Apr. 7, 1925.
NITEZD STATES- BARTHELEMY MAYOUX, OF ST.-ETIENNE, FRANCE,
macnnvnror. IB'EATING sKEINsoa HANKs in brains ROOMS.
Application filed January 6, 1922. Serial 1. 527,348.
To all whom 2'25 may concern:
Be it known that I, BARTHELEMY MAYOUX, citizen of the Republic of France, and resident of Monthieux, Saint-Etienne, Loire, in the said Republic, engineer, have invented a new and useful Machine for Treating Skeins or Hanks in Dyeing Rooms, of which the following is a specification.
The invention has for its object a machine intended to effect all the operations comprising a treatment in baths of thread material in skeins or hanks, such as scalding, de-gumming, washing, mordanting, dyeing, or the like.
This machine is based on the following principle: agitating in the bath the skeins or hanks of material, placed unstretched on rods carried by a frame which receives for that purpose a suitable movement.
Figure 1 of the accompanying drawings shows the machine with the hanks or skeins lowered into the bath.
Figure 2 is a plan view of same.
Figure 3' is a view similar to Figure 1, but showing the machine with the hanks or skeins raised out of the bath.
The machine comprises firstly one or more vats (6 containing the baths. A frame 6 able to receive upper rods 0 and lower rods supports the hanks or skeins 6. These hanks can be placed either inclined as shown in the drawings or vertical. It is important that they shall not be stretchedon the rods 0 and cl so that neither by the movement given to the frame 7) nor by their tendency to float shall the threads pull on the rods, but even detach themselves therefrom to permit the circulation of the bath in the thickness of the skeins to the places which at certain moments are in contact with the rods.
lVhen the skeins are in the bath they are covered completely thereby.
The desired movement is given to the frame 5 in the following manner 2-- The frame is provided with two beams f carrying at their ends eccentric straps 9..
The operating mechanism comprises frames h forming supports. An operating shaft 71 receives the movement of a stepped pulley j which permits several speeds being obtained. On the shaft 2' carried by the bearings Z are keyed worm screws 7r; which operate the helical gear wheels 0 keyed on the shafts m of the eccentrics a. Y
The straps g resting on the eccentrics a when the frame is lowered, the latter, with mentgiven by the eccentrics.
' pressed air.
the skeins that it carries, receives the move- The frame and the skeins rise and fall and go from right to left, at a speed which is suitable for the material under treatment.
Upon each rising movement, the skeins are loosened from the lower rods (Z and upon each falling movement they are detached from the upper rods 0, the movements being combined so that the floating property of the skeins is utilized in order that the bath shall circulate freely round the part which is only intermittently in. contact with the rods. The movements to right and left as well as those of rising and falling, cause the skeins to expand or spread and permit the bath easily to traverse them.
It is advantageous for the installation of the machine to be completed by an apparatus for raising the skein carrying frame. This elevating arrangement can be of any kind, mechanical, hydraulic or operated by comconsists of a framework formed by posts If, beams s and a runway r; on the latter rolls acarriage p which carries the tackle I for raising the frame.
This frame can be disposed either longitudinally or transversely in relation to the vats, according to the arrangement of the workroom, assuming that, in an installation, the vats can .be placed longitudinally one after the other, in the order of the operations to be effected, or can be arranged transversely side by side of each other.
The machine could also be arranged so that only the frame I) has to be taken out of the bath and the beams 7'' remain resting by the straps g on the eccentrics it.
Further, according to the kind of work and the material to be treated, the operating shaft a could receive by any suitable reversing device, amovement of rotation in opposite directions, and not continuous, said movement being transmitted to the skein carrying frame by the eccentrics.
It is obvious that, for controlling the skein carrying frame, the eccentrics could be replaced by cranks, cams, or other similar devices.
Having described my -invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A machine of the character described comprising, a movable frame for supporting the skeins, means for supporting this frame, and
That shown in the drawings mechanism for moving the frame along an as my invention, I have signecl my name in endless path; said mechanism consisting of presence of two Witnesses, this twenty-first 10 a nain shaft and a plurality of transverse clay of December, 1921. sha ts Worm ears connectin said main and 5 transv erse sh afts, said tra nsverse shafts BARTHELEMY AIAYOUX' bearing eccentrics, and half collars upon the \Vitnesses: frame fitted to cooperate With said eccentrics. PIERRE MI JDAN,
In testimony, that I claim the foregoing GLAUDIUS MAYOUX.
