Cooperating. with the stud, I have shown a socket preferably, as illustrated, carried by a flexible carrying medium 9 which may be anautoniobile curtain. The socket illustrated presents jaw means typified by the jaws 10, with a resilient portion 11 urging the jaw means into engagement with the neck 6 of the stud as viewed in Fig. 8, these parts housed in a socket casing and preferably, as illustrated, located on that side of the curtain 9 from which the stud enters. The casing may be of any suitable form, but p-rei'ierably as herein shown includes a back plate presenting a peripheral wall 13 surrounding but spaced away from the spring 11, the front of the spring and jaw containing a casing provided by a disc 14 herein shown a flange projecting outwardly from a cylindrical easing partz15: passing. through the curtain- 9 and held}, withits' cooperating parts, was curtain 9 by prongs projecting fromthe wall 7 13.; and clenched within a securing ring-:16 (Fig; 7).

During this operation, it should benoted that the inward pressure on the part 24; does not interfere with? the kick-off spring- 20 and that there is therefore no counteracting. of the kick-off force. Thus the fastener illustrated combines that ease of operation inherent to a push as distinguished from a twist or pull, and at the same time admits of satisfactory kick-off operation.
When the socket is to be engaged with the stud, the latter should be entered in the stud-receiving aperture and a push on the socket, other than the part 24, will cause the jaws 10, 10 to be separated by the head 5 of the stud until they snap into engagement with the neck of the stud, thus resuming the relative positions shown in Figs. 2 and 3.
While I have shown and described a preferred form of one embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that changes involving omission, substitution, alteration and reversal of parts, and even changes in the mode of operation, may be made without departing from the scope of my invention, which is best defined in the following claims.
Claims:
1. A fastener comprising, in combination, a stud having a head and a neck, a socket having stud-engaging jaw means, axial pushoperated means for disengaging said jaw means from said neck of said stud and kickoff means for moving said jaw means away from said neck pursuant to disengagement of said jaw means from said neck, said kickoff means actively interposed between said stud and a portion of said socket movable independently of said axial push-operated means.
2. A fastener presenting axially push-operated stud and socket disengaging means in combination with kick-off means on the socket, said kick-off means operating in a direction opposite to the direction of push on said disengaging means, said kick-off means operatively interposed between said stud and a portion of said socket movable independently of said axially push-operated disengaging means.
3. A fastener presenting a stud having a head and a neck in combination with a socket presenting a jaw resiliently to engage said neck, axial puslroperated jaw moving means for disengaging said jaw from said neck, and kick-off means carried by said socket exterior to said push-operated means, said kick-off means operative to move said jaw out of line with said neck independently of any corresponding movement of said j awmoving means.
4. A fastener comprising, in combination, a stud, and a socket presenting resilient stud-engaging jaw means and relatively movable parts, one operable by pressure axial of said stud to disengage said jaw means from said stud and the other operable by similar pressure to engage said jaw means with said stud.
5. A fastener comprising, in combination,
a stud, and a socket presenting stud-engag ing jaw means and telescopically relatively movable parts, the first of said parts operable by pressure toward said stud to disengage said j aw means from said stud and the second of said parts operable by similar pressure to engage said jaw means with said stud and kick-off means carried by the socket and moving said second of said parts away from said stud while the pressure is maintained on the first of said parts.
6. A fastener comprising, in combination, a stud, and a socket presenting stud-engaging jaw means and relatively movable parts one within the other, the inner of said parts operable by pressure toward said stud to disengage said jaw means from said stud and the outer of said parts operable by similar pressure to engage said aw means with said stud, and kick-off means carried by the socket and moving said outer of said parts away from said stud while pressure is maintained on said inner of said parts.
7. A fastener comprising, in combination, a stud, and a socket presenting stud-engaging jaw means and relatively movable parts one within the other, the inner of said parts presenting a wedge portion and a projecting push button operable by pressure toward said stud to disengage said jaw means from said stud and the outer of said parts operable by similar pressure to engage said jaw means with said stud, and kick-off means carried by the socket and moving said outer of said parts away from said stud while pressure is maintained on said inner of said parts.
8. A fastener comprising, in combination, a stud, and a socket presenting stud-engaging jaw means and presenting two relatively movable face portions, the outer surrounding the inner, the inner operable by pressure toward said stud to disengage said stud and socket, and the other operable by similar pressure to engage said stud and socket, and kick-ofi means presenting portions behind both said inner and outer face portions and exerting separating pressure between said stud and the outer of said face portions.
