COLLAR HOLDER.

Be it known that I, LnsLIE M. Wont, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of Fort l Jayne, in the county of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar Holders, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in collar holders of that class applied to soft collars to prevent the spreading of the points, and the object of the improvement is to provide an ornamental securing means for the points of a collar which will admit of adjustments as to its length to vary the space between the collar points. Another object is to construct the connecting means so that when it is applied in position the adjusted parts will be held fixedly together.

The objects of the invention are accomplished by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 1 is a front elevation of a holder embodying the invention, including a collar to which it is applied;

Fig. 2 is a front view of the slip link and includes the connecting chains in cross section, the view being upon an enlarged scale;

Fig. 3 is a fragmentary View projected from Fig. 2; and

Figs. 4 and 5 are respectively a front elevation and projection therefrom of a slip link of modified form.

The characters appearing in the description refer to parts shown in the drawings and designated thereon by corresponding characters.

The invention comprises a pair of buttons 6 that constitute mounts for corresponding jewels 7. Each button has attached thereto a series of connected links 8, as a chain, that terminates with an enlarged ring 9 at the end opposite the button. Both of said chains extend through an elongated slip link 10 which has a longitudinal opening 11 therein of a width as to accommodate the links of the chain when placed flatwise therein but not edgewise except at the center of the link where the opening has opposite offsets 12 which accommodate the edgewise links so that when either chain is moved to the middle of the link it may be drawn in either direction through the center of the link. The opening 11 extends longitudinally toward each end of the link a sufiicient distance only as'to accommodate one of the chains while the other chain is positioned in the center of the link, and when said chains are positioned in the corresponding opposite end portions of the opening, the chains are held from sliding through the link. The button which is attached at one end to each chain, and the ring at the opposite end thereof are of such size as will not admit of their passage through the link and therefore, disconnection of the chains and the link is prevented.

In Figs. 4- and 5 is shown a modification of the link, in which instance those opposite portions 13 of the elongated link 14 adjacent the oli'sets of the opening 16, are arched so as to extend out of the general plane of the link.

The bend in said portions tend to guide the edgewiselinks into the ofl'sets when the chain is moved to the middle of the link as when adjusting the chain therein,

In a collar holder of the class de scribed, a pair of jewel heads each having attached thereto a series of connected links as a chain, the head being connected at one end of the chain, a ring larger than the links attached to the opposite end of the chain; and an elongated slip link having a longitudinal opening therein through which both of the chains extend, there being a central enlargement of the opening through whichthe chains may be severally drawn, those portions of the slot on either side of the enlargement being of sufficient width as to accommodate the links when moved flat- Wise therein and of such narrowness as to prevent the links from passing edgewise therethrough.

2. In a collar holder of the class described, a pair of heads; a corresponding series of links as a chain attached at one end to each head; and an elongated slip link having a longitudinal opening therein with a central enlargement, said chains being severally movable through the enlargement and having locking engagement against longitudinal movement in the opening adjacent the enlargement.

3. In a collar holder of the class described, a pair of chains, each consisting of a series of connected links, means at one end of each chain for connection with the collar, and a connecting means for said chains having locking engagement severally there;

with and having an enlarged opening therein into which said chains may be severally moved and drawn longitudinally therethrough.

4. In a collar holder of the class described, a pair of chains each consisting of a series of connected links; a button secured to the end of each chain and a slip link through which both of said chains ex- 10 tend, there being an elongated opening therein With a central enlargement and corresponding offsets in the opposite portions of the link adjacent the enlargement.
