' To all whom it may concern:
1 Be it known that l, EARL H. Moran, a citizen of the United States, residin at Reading, in the county'of Berks and Ctate of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in l-lcadlight Signals, of which the following-is a specification. I
This invention. relates to improvements in headlight signal, devices and it is intencled more particularly for use on the v "headlights of an automobile.
Inasmuch as the laws require that the headlights of a vehicle be lighted at certain tlmes, it is important that the driver be able to determine whether his lights are when bent to on or otf'at all times, and to this end I have devised a simple means of conveying this information.
The invention consists of a-rclatively small reflector attached to the upper por--' tion of the lens rim of the headlight, in such position that the driver will be sure to get a reflection of the lighted hunpand, whereby he will be informed, when he does not get such reflection, that the lamp in that particular headlight has gone out. The invention is more fully described in the following specification and clearly illus trated in the accompanying drawing, in which:-

The upper portion of the blank is bent to form a substantially rectangular box-like member. 7. and this is preferably provided with a colored transparency 8 which may preferably be held in position by a spring 9.
When the blank is bent to the form designated. that is. the lower ortion curved'to form'the reflector and t 0 upper portion bent to form the signal box, with the transparency in position, the fingers 5 are bent about the lens rim to secure the device in positicnccntrally at the upper edge of each headlight. and the rays of light from the lump will strike the reflector and showthrough the colored transparency which faces the driver of the vehicle, so that he will be constantly informed as to whether or not the lamp is burning.
It is evident that the blank from which the combined reflector and signal box is formed. may be made integrally with the lens rim if desired, but 1 have shown it in the form illustrated and described, as the preferred form of device which may be eas ily applied to any headli ht.

The combination of a headlight having a lens rim. with a signal device formed with flexible fingers for attachment to'the lensrim, said device consisting. of a sheet of metal having its lower extremity curved to form a reflector. and its upper portion bent to form a substantially rectangular box, and a colored transparency located within said box and a spring to' keep the
