With these objects, and such other objects as may hereinafter appear, in View, I have devised the particular, arrangement of partshereina-fter set forth and more particularly pointed out in the claims appended hereto.

Extending between and 'connecting the tivo reinforces ,Tand S is, arseparate strip 9 ivhicli is df expansi'ble material and Whichwisknot"'sectired for its lengt-h tothe face offthe fro-nt section *l tand `is '.nsible independently of 1d fi-"nt section. As Will be seen, this strip extends longitudinally of the front section, but is of much less Width than the saine. The strip 9 is preferably located on the inner face of the front section but it may be located on the outer face of the same if desired. The strip 9 throughout its entire length is separated from the face of the front section l, but it has its ends 10 and l1 secured to, or secured between the reinforces 7 and 9 and the face of the front section. The strip 9 is provided With lateral extensions l2 and 13 Which project transversely of the front section of the garment and which have their ends secured at the opposite or upper and lower edges of the garment at the points where reinforces 14; and 15 are located.
The strip 9 and its lateral extensions 12 and 13 is so formed as to properly embrace the front or diaphragm portion of the body of the wearer and holds the same with a lirm yet yielding pressure, imparting a gentle massaging action to the same, gradually causing the reduction in size of the upper portion of the abdomen.
The formation of a strip, such as at 9, on the front of the garment provides two separate thicknesses of material which co-operate to impart greater tension and a greater pressure on those parts of the body which lie behind it, which are those parts where the greatest reduction is required.
The back section of the garment is shown at 16 and the same may be of any expansible material impervious to moisture, such as rubber similar to the front section. The longitudinal edges of the rear section are suitably reinforced by strips 17 and 18, and one end of the rear section terminates in a reinforce 19 similar to thereinforces 7 and 8, previously described.
The garment is supported on the wearer by shoulder straps 20 and 21 which connect the front and rear sections as shown.
In Figures 2 and 3, the garment is shown as it appears in use, where it will be seen that the same forms a continuous belt-like garment surrounding the body and extendingl upwardly from the waist line with the separate strip 9 innermost and against the body of the wearer. The ends of the garment are united together by any suitable fasteners such as the eyes 22 secured on the reinforce 19 which engage with hooks located on the reinforce 11. When so united the joint or connection of the two ends of the garment is located at a point below one of the wearers arms, while the reinforce 7 is located at a point below the other arm, the front section 1 being thus drawn taut between the reinforces 7 and 8 across the front of the wearers body over the diaphragm where the reduction is desired.
A depending strip 23 has its upper end secured to the front section 1, the reinforce 15 being provided to prevent strain on the front section. The lower end of the strip 23 is provided with a loop 24 which is adapted to engage with a fastening member or a button on a corset or other article of apparel to hold down the garment, preventing the same from .moving up on the body of the wearer, and also holding the lateral portions 12 and 13 of the separate strip under tension against the body.
The back section of the garment is of substantially thin rubber and the front section is of similar rubber. except where the strip 9 is located and thickness, tension and pressure is provided. The thin rubber sections have considerable elasticity and consequently do not impart a pressure as great as that imparted by the front portion of the garment co-operating with the strip 9 which is the location where the greater pressure is required.
That I claim is:
1. An article of the class described comprising a` body-embracing elastic band made of material impervious to moisture, said band having an elastic front section, the ends of which terminate in inexpansible reinforces, and a continuous elastic strip free and independent of the front section for its length and extending across the same and connecting one of the reinforces with the other.
2. An article of the class described comprising a garment having a front section and a rear section joined to form a continuous strip adapted to extend about the body. said front and rear sections being composed of an elastic material impervious to moisture, an elongated strip of elastic material free and independent of the front section extending' longitudinally across the same, and having its ends connected to the face of the front section at spaced points, said strip having lateral extensions, at the ends of which are secured at the upper and lower edges of the front section.
Signed at the city of New York, count).Y of Queens and State of New York, this day of April, 1924.
