G. DAHL ADJUSTABLE DOUBLE CLAMP Filed March 27 1924 I A //v VENTOR 2 W G /mu/W 00/7/ Patented Feb. 3, 1925.
PATENT (JFFICE...
GJ'ERMUNN DAI-IL, OF SEATTLE, VIASL-IINGTON.
ADJUSTABLE DOUBLE CLAMP.
Application filed March 27, 1924.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GJERMUNN DAHL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Se attle, in the county of King and State of Vashington, have invented a new and useful Adjustable Double Clamp; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full,
clear, and exact specification, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
lhe invention is a clamp having one section for holding it to an object and another section in which another object may be held, and in which both sections are held in a clamping position by a single bolt.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple flexible clamp that may be attached to objects of different sizes and that may hold another object in it.
Another object of the invention is to provide a simple and efficient clamp for holding flags or the like to motor vehicles or the like.
And a further object of the invention is to provide a double clamp in which both sections may be held in a clamping position with a. single bolt or contracting device and in, which both sections may be readily adjusted to objects of different sizes.
Y Vith these ends in view the invention embodies a band having holes through it, a socket in it, and a bolt through holes in the ends for clamping the ends together.
Other features and advantages of the invention will be seen from the following description taken in connection with the draw ings, wherein Figure 1 is a view showing the device as it would be used to hold a flag to the radiator cap of a motor vehicle.
Figure 2 is a plan view of the device.
Figure 3 is a sectional View showing the clamping socket in the side of the main clamp.
In the drawings I have shown my device as it would be constructed wherein numeral Serial No. 702,189.
1 indicates the main clamp, numeral 2 the clamping socket, and numeral 3 the bolt.
The clamp 1 is made out of a band of thin metal with holes 4 placed continuously around its entire length so that it may be cut to any suitable length and the ends bent outward as shown in Figure 2 so that the bolt 3 may be placed through holes that would come adjacent the ends.
The socket 2 is formed with an enlarged section of the band 1 by placing one of the ends through an opening 5 so that the socket may be drawn together in the clamping position as the ends of the large clamp are drawn together by the bolt 3.
It will be seen that the flag staff as shown in Figure 1 may be placed through the socket 2 and the clamp 1 around the neck of the radiator or around the cap and it will also be seen that as the bolt 3 is tightened it will clamp the band 1 on the radiator and also draw the socket 2 together in a clamping position so that it will grip the flag staff. It will also be seen that should the clamp 1 be too large it may be cut at any suitable point and the end bent outward so that the bolt may be placed through a hole in it.
Having thus fully described the invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A. thin ring with a socket in one side, said ring having holes through it and being adaptable to be cut at any suitable point so i that its ends may be bent outward and so that the ends that are bent outward will have holes in them through which a bolt may be passed for clamping the ends of the ring together, and said socket being formed by placing one end of the ring through an opening therein so that as the ends of the ring are drawn together the socket will also be drawn together so that it may clamp ob jects therein.
GJERMUNN DAHL.
