JOSEPH ZORECZKY, OF BETHLEI-IEM, PENNSYLVANIA.
sLUB CA'JJCHER. i
Application filed September 17, 1924. Serial No, 738,251.
To aZZ whom it may concem:
Be it known that Josnrrr ZORECZKY, a
Citizen of the United' States, residing at Bethlehem, in the county of Northampton andV State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Slub Catcher, of Which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to slub catchers commonly employed in connection With Winding machines, the primary object of the invention being to provide an adjustable slub catcher constructed of porcelain.
Another important object of the invention is to Vprovide a' slub Catcher of a novel construction which will possess exceptionally smooth surfaces to reduce the Wear on the material passing therethrough to the ninimum.
A still further object of the invention is to provide an adjusting means Which may be locked in various positions of adjustment by a key fitted for its purpose, thereby eliminating any possibility of unauthorized persons adjusting the slub Catcher.
lVith the 'foregoing and other objects in view which Will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in' the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of Construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made Within the scope of What is claimed, Without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring 'to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a slub catcher constructed in accordance With the invention.
Figure 2 is a front elevational view thereof.
Figure 3 is a rear elevational view of the slub Catcher. V
Figure 4 is an end elevational view thereof.
Figure 5 is a vertical sectional view taken on line 5-5 of Figure 2.
Figure 6 is a transverse sectional view taken on line 6-6 of Figure 2.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the reference character 5 ndicates the body portion of the slub Catcher Which is provided With an elongated opening 6 through Which a suitable securing post may be fastened to secure the slub Catcher to a winding machine.
lThe body portion 5 is formed preferably of porcelain or similar material that may be polished to provide an exceptionally smooth surface over ivhich the material passes to reduce Wear on the material to the minimum.
The reference character 7 indicates the usual guide through which the material is passed and as shown, the forward portion of the guide or groove is flared at 8, eliminating rough shoulders or corners at the point of entrance of the material to the guide.
Formed at the rear of the body portion is a cut out portion indicated at 9 Which accommodates the porcelain adjustable block 10 which has one end thereof disposed at one end of the guide and adapted to extend across the guide to restrict the Width of the guide and adapt it for use in connection With material of various sizes.
n order that the block 10 may be adjusted as described an elongated opening 11 is formed therein, Which opening accommodates the bolt 12 that also passes through the body portion 5 to secure the adjustable block 10 in various positions of adjustment.
A steel plate indicated at 13 is also provided With an opening to accommodate the bolt 12 Which steel plate engages the leather Washer 14 positioned on the adjustable block 10 to relieve the porcelain block 10 of undue strain, when the nut 15 which is positioned on the threaded end of the bolt 12 has vbeen properly seated.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that due to this Construction, the block 10 may be moved laterally to reduce or increase the width of the guide 7 at the Will of the operator.
As illustrated by Figure 6 of the drawing, the body portion is formed With a recessed portion to receive the head 16 of the bolt 12, the head being provided With a recess 17 to receive a square tool so that a particular type of tool is necessary in order to remove the bolt or loosen the bolt to accomplish the adjusting thereof, to the end that unauthorizedpersons may be prevented from making adjustments.
From the foregoing it is beleved that the Construction and operation of the device Will be clearly obvious, and a further detail description 'as to the use of the device is unnecessary. V
5 1. A slub catcher comprising a body portion forned of porcelain material'and having a cut out portion extending,` from one edge thereof to provide a thread gui(1e, said body portion having a rear cut out portion,
10 and an adjustable block positioned in the 'ear cut out portion and adapt'ed to extend ainto the-cut outportion forming-the :thread guide to restrict the size of ,thef'th-read guide.
V'2. A slub'catcher coniprising a body por- 15 vtion having a cut out zportion extending j'fromone-edgethereof to provide a fthread yguidewassaid body v,portionhavin-g a cut I dont' portion ffo'ned: in the rear surface-thereof, an adJustable block of a Width =equa1f to i fthe width of thenguideway,:positioned in the last mentioned cut out portion, and
lfrom one edge theifeotto provide a thread guideway, saidibody portion having a cut out` portion forned in its rear surface and intei'secting the first mentioned cut out por- -tion, and an adjustable block in the second f mentioned cut out portion for adjusting the size of the threadguideway.
