stepson-meat in SEAL-LOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. h 52,2295, dated June 23, 1874; application tiled May 9, 1874.
the class of seal-locks in'wvhieh'the glass or other seal-plate is held. in place in its socket by means of the shank of the hasp. The llll .provement relates to a construction and arrangementhereinafter described and specifieally'indioated in the claim.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a front View, showing the construction of theinierior of the look, without the seal-plate, the parts being in the locked position. Fig. 2 is a front view showing the lock unlocked, with the seal-plate Fig. 3 is a cross-section of Fig. 1, 011 the line as m, and Fig. 4 is a crosssection on the liney 3 Fig. 1.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts.
A is the back plate of the lock; B is the hasp; (l is the inner removable plate, which is fastened to the back plate by the screw D; E is the sliding bolt, which is thrown forward to engage with the'notch F of the hasp by spring Gr. 11 is a small knob or pin on the bolt which projects into the orificel of the inner plate 0. J is the seal-plate. made pref:
erably of glass, upon the back side of which is'the railroad-label eont-ainin g the necessary information in regard to route, number, destination, &c.
This seal-plate slides in through the slit K in the edge of the lock, and covers. the inner plate 0, and consequently the knob H, of the bolt. The hasp is not hinged, but slides in and out, as seen in Figs. 1 and 2,'L being a shoulder on the long leg M which prevents its being entirely separated from the lock. Vllhen the hasp is down, as seen in Fig. 1, the long leg M entirely closes the slit K, and eiieetnally confines the plate J, so that the seal-plate must be broken before the lock can be ulr locked.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The combination of the plate A having the vertical side slot K, the removable faceplate C, apertured as shown, and the hasp B, having the lug L formed on its leg or shank M, which slides between the side edges of said plates, as specified.
