Description
E. H. KRUSE SWITCH BOX BRACKET Filed Oct. l5I 1925 INVENToR M l BY Q ATTORNEY lil Patented Dec. 16, 1924.
UNITED STATES EDWARD H. KRUSE, OF FOR-T' WAYNE, INDIANA.
SWITCH-BOX BRACKET.
Application filed Gctober 15, 1923.
1/ 0 all whom t may conce/rn.'
ile it known that I, EDWARD H. Kauen, citizen of the United States of America, and resident of l? ort Wayne, in the county of Allen and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Switch-Box Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in switch-box brackets, and the object thereof is to provide a readily attachable and adjustable bracket for switch boxes by means of which the switch boxes are secured permanently in the walls of buildings, it being the especial purpose to construct the bracket and the switch box so as to admit of the attachment ot' the bracket to the box and of .its adjustment thereon without resorting to the use of tools, and so that the bracket will be held in proper alinement thereon when secured in place.
These objects are accomplished by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. l. is a side elevation of a switch box including brackets thereon embodying the invention;
Fig. 2 is a plan view projected from Fig. l; and
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary front elevation of the same.
The characters appearing in the description refer to parts shown in the drawings and designated thereon by corresponding characters.
The switch box l is of that general type used for permanent installation in walls of buildings for containing electrical switches, etc. In this instance, however, the top and bottom walls 2 of the box each have an outset portion 3 that extends centrally from a point near the back of the box to a point near the front thereof, the portion 3 being formed of the metal sheet of which the box is made. Each portion 3 has formed therein a transversely disposed pocket l that projects outwardly from the general plane of said portion so as to receive a corresponding pin 5 therein.
llpon the top and bottom of the box is secured a bracket 6 having parallel base members T that are spaced apart and connected at their rear ends by a transverse strap 8 that is arched sufficiently to clear the outset portion 3 of the box when said Serial No. 668,522.
base portions are placed astride thereof and bear against the top or bottom of the box. Along the outer edge of each base portion 7 is formed an escalloped ridge 9 engageable by the corresponding projecting ends of the pin 5, and thereby the bracket is fixedly held in place in connection with the box.
ln utilizing the invention, the brackets are placed astride of the outset portions and are moved lengthwise thereon to the desired position where they are held by inserting the pins 5 through the corresponding pocket i so that the projecting ends thereof bear against the ridges of the bracket.
By this construction. the brackets may be readily applied to the box and adjusted thereon, vand readjusted as occasion may arise when installing the box without the use of screws and tools as in the ordinary practice. When the brackets are secured on the box by the pins, their forward Inovement is limited by their arched straps S, while their backward movement is limited by their forward ends which are stopped by contact with` said pins.
Vhat l claim is l. ln combination, a switch box having in its top and bottom an outset portion centrally disposed and extending from a point near the back of the box to a point near the front thereof, each portion having a transversely disposed pocket formed therein; a bracket for the top and bottom, each bracket having parallel base members spaced apart and an arched connection at their rear ends,
there being along the outer edge of each base portion an cscalloped ridge; and a removable pin extending through each pocket, its ends having engagement with the ridges of the corresponding bracket and holding the base of the bracket astride of the corresponding outset portion.
Q. In combination, a switch box having in its top and bottom a corresponding outset portion longitudinally disposed between its front and back and formed with a transverse pocket; a bracket on the top and bottom of the box, the base of each bracket having guided relation with the correspondingl outset portion; and a pin extending through each of said pockets and engaging the base of the corresponding bracket so that said bracket is thereby held adjustably in posi` tion.
3. lin combination, a switch box having at its top and bottom a corresponding outset portion formed With a pocket; a bracket for the top and bottom of the box, each bracket being positioned with its base astride of the corresponding outset portion, there being @scalloped ridges on the base of said bracket; and a pin extending through each' of said Apockets and engaging said ridges to hold the corresponding bracket adjustably in connection with the boX.
In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
EDWARD H. KRUSE.
