lied atthe top oil fallingmod 1- llii) lllI) wires, parts adjacent the drop wires, in addition to the yarns or threads themselves, free and clear from lint.
In the case of this embodiment of the in..
vention, the main support of the blower is a rod or shaft 10 which extends across the width of the machine, above the top of the latter, said rod or shaft being mounted in place by having its ends fixedly engaged with stands 111 rising from the tops of the side-frames of the machine. One of said stands is partly broken away in Fig. 2. In this instance, the blower is located at midwidth of the series of yarns or threads, which is an effective position for enabling it to keep the yarns or threads and the desired machine parts clear of lint. It is an electric fan, which is preferred, although the invention is not necessarily restricted in all instances to the employment of a fan blower.
To provide for swinging movements transversely of the machine, the fan is mounted between the depending arms of a bail or yoke 12 that hangs down from the supporting rod or shaft 10, the fan-casing being furnished with journals 13, 13, working in bearings in connection with the said arms. The bail or yoke occupies a vertical plane corresponding in general direction with the length of the yarns or threads, so that the fan swings in a vertical plane at, or substantially at right angles with said length.
To provide for the convenient connection of the yoke with the supporting rod or shaft 10, a collar 101 is placed upon said rod or shaft, said collar being furnished with a downwardly-extending stud or pin 102, and the bail or yoke is provided with a hub 121 which fits upon said stud or pin. A clamping screw 122 applied to the said hub serves to hold the bail or yoke in place upon the stud or pin, with capacity for adjustment up and down to vary the height of the fan above the yarns or threads, etc., and also with capacity for angular adjustment around the stud or pin in case it should be desired to vary the angle which the plane in which the fan swings makes relative to the length of the yarns or threads. The collar 101 is fixedly engaged with supporting rod or shaft 10 by means of a clamping screw 100, enabling the collar and fan to be adjusted upon said rod or shaft transversely of the machine, if desired.
According to the present invention, the means actuated from the driving mechanism of the machine by which the blower is swung to cause the current of air therefrom to sweep back and forth across the width of the machine, comprises in this embodiment a cam in connection with a gear-wheel 17 that is in mesh with a pinion 19 on shaft 20 of winding drum 20, and devices intermediate the said cam and the blower. The cam in question is constituted by a camgroove 170 in the gear-wheel 17 and the main element of said devices is a rocker to which rocking movement is imparted from the cam. In this instance the rocker is a sleeve 14 that surrounds rod or shaft 10, it having fixed upon one end thereof by means of a clamping screw 160 an arm 16 which is connected by a link 32 with an arm 31 projecting from one of the journals 13 of the fan-casing, whereby when the sleeve 14 is rocked around rod or shaft 10 swinging movement is imparted to the fan-blower. Operative connection between the rocker and the cam is established by means of an arm 15 that is fixedly connected by a clamping screw 150 with the sleeve 14, a link 30 having its upper end engaged with the arm 15, and a lever 28 pivoted at 29 upon the machine-framing, provided with a camfollower 27 working in cam-groove 170, and having the lower end of link 30 connected with it. v
The fan 11 is shown provided with a guard 21 of usual character about its blades. In practice, suitable lead-wires m, Fig. 3, are connected with the fan. In Fig. 3 these lead-wires are merely indicated diagrammatically, to enable their general course to be traced. A suitable switch is provided for controlling the actuation of the fan. In this instance, such switch is indicated at 22, Fig. 3, located at the bottom of one end of the machine. The plunger 220 thereof is arranged to be depressed by a finger 23 upon the pedal-rockshaft 24, so as to close the switch and let the current flow only when the warping machine is running on high speed. With the switch arranged to be actuated from the pedal-rockshaft as just described, the blower is automatically set in action and commences to oscillate as soon as the warping machine is put on high speed. By reason of having the axis of oscillation disposed lengthwise of the Inachine, so that the plane of oscillation is transverse, i. e., widthwise of the machine, at right angles to the direction of the length of the yarns or threads, or substantially so, the blast of air is swept back and forth to clear the yarns, combs, drop-wires, etc., throughout the entire width of the machine. The efi'ect of the blast or current as it acts upon the yarns, etc., is substantially uniform across the entire width of the machine.
In some instances, we contemplate substituting a nozzle for delivering air under moderate pressure in place of the electric fan which is illustrated in the drawings. We claim as our invention: 1. I11 a warping machine or the like, in combination, a supporting shaft, a blower mounted upon said shaft with capacity for swinging movement transversely of the machine, and means for swinging the blower to cause its blast to sweep across the width of the series of yarns or threads, comprising a sleeve upon the said shaft provided with arms, a cam, a cam-actuated member operatively connected with one of the sleeve-arms, and operative connections between a second sleeve-arm and the blower, to rock the latter when the sleeve is rocked.
2. In a warping machine or the like, a lint-clearer comprising a blower mounted for swinging movement transversely of the machine, an actuating cam, and arocker actuated by said cam and connected with the blower for swinging the blower to cause its blast to sweep across the width of the series of yarns or threads.
3. In a warping machine or the like, a lintclearer comprising a blower located at a fixed point in the width of the machine, and means actuated from the driving mechanism of the machine for swinging the blower to cause the current of air therefrom to sweep back and forth transversely across the width of the machine.
4. In a warping machine or the like, a lint-clearer comprising a blower, a yoke or supporting frame to which the blower is connected with capacity to rock or swing,
an overhead support for said yoke or supporting frame located at a fixed point in the width of the machine, and means for adjusting the yoke or supporting frame vertically upon the said overhead support.
5. In a warping machine or the like, a lint-clearer comprising a blower, a yoke or supporting frame to which the blower is connected with capacity to rock or swing, an overhead support for said yoke or supporting frame located at a fixed point in the width of the machine, and means for adjusting the yoke or supporting frame angularly in a horizontal plane upon the overhead support.
6. In a warping machine or the like, a lint-- clearer comprising a blower, in combination with a yoke or supporting frame to wh ch the blower is connected with capacity to rock or swing, and an overhead support for said yoke or supporting frame located at a fixed point in the width of the machine, one of the latter elements having a pin or projection and the other a sleeve adjustably fitting upon said pin or projection, and
means for fastening said sleeve and said pin or projection together.
