Description

' H. C. CHOCKSEE HEAD'COVERING Filed Feb. 25, 1921 2 Sheets-$heet 2 [Z GwdCse;
INVENTOR WH NESS:
Patented Dec. 2, 1924.
HORMUSJI CAWASJI CHOCKSEE, 0F BOMBAY, INDIA.
" ATE HEAD COVERING.
Application filed February 25, 1921.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORMUsJI G. CHooK- SEE, subject of the King of GreatBritain, residing at Bombay, India, have invented new and useful Improvements in Head Coverings, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a head covering or headdress which is mainly designed for nurses, though, of course it can be used by others.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a head-dress of neat and attractive appearance and one which is provided with a pocket for receiving the knot of hair at the back of the head.
Another object of the invention is to provide the rear of the cap with an extension to protect the neck.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the several views, and in which Figure 1 is a view showing one form of the invention in use.
Figure 2 is a similar view showing another form.
Figure 3 is a similar view showing still another form.
Figure 1 is a perspective View of the cap shown in Figure 1.
Figure 5 is a view showing how access can be had to the pocket for inserting the hair therein.
Figures 6 and 7 are detail views showing the pocket as being provided with ornaments.
Figure 8 is a view of the cap provided with a peak and engaging a comb.
The cap or head-dress A is formed with the top portion 1 and the side portions 2, the said top and side portions merging into the back part 3. The cap shown in Figure 1 has its side portions out to leave the ears uncovered. That shown at 8 in Figure 2 has its side portions formed with inclined lower edges so as to cover the ears, while the cap shown at 8 in Figure 3 has the Serial No. 447,716.
edges of its side pieces formed to extend from the front edge of the top piece to a point well down the back of the head so as to cover the ears and the entire rear part of the head of the user. In all these forms of the invention the rear part 3 is pro vided with a tail part 4, this tail part in Figures 1 and 2 extending outwardly away from the neck while in Figure 3 it lies close to the neck. It will of course be understood that this tail part may be placed in any desired position relative to the neck.
In all the forms of my invention the rear part 3 of the cap is provided with a pocket 5 to receive the. knot of hair formed at the back of the head. This pocket is preferably made of rubber or other resilient material and this pocket may be secured to the cap in any suitable manner or it may be formed with the cap. I may also provide means for facilitating the placing of the pocket around the knot of hair, such means comprising a pair of slits 6 made in the rear part with their inner ends communicating with the mouth of the pocket, the slits being in alignment and arranged at opposite sides of the mouth. The edges of the slits are adapted to be held in closed condition by means of the flaps 7 which are held closed by'the buttons or snap fasteners 8. It will thus be seen that when the flaps are unfastened the mouth of the pocket can be expanded so that the pocket can he slipped over the knot of hair and then by fastening the flaps again the knot will be held in the pocket.
The exterior part of the pocket may be provided with ornaments such as the metallic disc 9, which may be decorated in any suitable manner, or have an ornament connected therewith. The pocket may also be covered by embroidery, ribbons or the like. as shown in the drawings.
I may provide a peak 10 on the front edge of the top part 1 and this peak may be made of two thicknesses of material so as to provide a space between them to receive a comb 11, as shown in Figure 8. This comb and peak will help to hold the cap on the head.
The cap may be made of cloth, celluloid or any other suitable material.
It will thus be seen that I have provided a head-dress which will protect the hair and portions of the head and one which fits snugly to the head and is firmly secured in place and one which is capable of being provided With any desired ornaments to make the head-dress more attracti ve in appearance.
It is thought from the foregoing descrip tion that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desire it to be understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
hat I claim is A cap comprising a top part and side portions, said top and side portions merging into a back part, the side portions of said cap being cut to permit the ears to be uncovered, a tail part provided on the back part and adapted to be placed in any position relative to the neck a semi-circular resilient pocket provided on the rear part to receive the knot of hair formed at the back ot the head, the rear part having slits therein with their inner ends communicating with the mouth of the pocket, said slits being in alignment and arranged at opposite sides of the mouth, flaps adapted to hold the edges of the slits in closed position and snap fasteners provided on said flaps for holding the latter closed.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
HORIVIUSJI CAWASJI CHOCKSEE. Vitnesses S. B. Manon, A. R. R-AMASSOAMY IYER.
