Description

W. W. STEWART Adjustable Caps for Watches.
No,l5l,5l6 Patentedjune2,874.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
VILLIAM V. STEWART, OF BROOKLYN, NE/V YORK.
IMPROVEMENTIN ADJUSTABLE CAPS FOR WATCHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 151,516, dated June 2, 1874 application iiled January 23, 1874.
To all whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known that I, WILLIAM W. STEWART, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented an Adjustable Gap for fato-hes, of which the following is a specilioation rlhe object of my invention is to provide a cap for watches which may be adjusted to all movements in which the dista-nce from the oenrer arbor to the wiinling-arbor is the same, although the winding-arbor may be otherwise differently located, and thus to make any case ol;l the proper size adjustable to any suoli movement; and especially to obviate the necessity, which at present exists, of making diti'ercnt cases for the ladies7 movements made by the laltham fateli Company, Charles Latour, and the Elgin \Vatch Company.
In the drawings, Figure l is a plan view'of the cap complete; Fig. 2, an edge view, and Fie. 3 a sectional view thereof. Figs. 4c and 5 represent the center of the cap and the bezel, respectively, detached from eaoh other.
My invention consists in making the cap in two parts-a bezel, designated in the accompanying drawing by the letter A, holding in place a circular center, B, in whieh center are made the keyhole O, for the center arbor, and the key-hole D, for the winding-arbor. The upper inner edge of the bezel may be burnished over, so as to hold the center in'position, yet allowing it to be revolved, by which means the key-hole intended for the winding-arbor can be adjusted to any point at a certain distance from the center arbor.
I claim as my invention- The adjustable watch-cap described, consisting of the center plate B, having holes for the winding and setting posts, and arranged to turn in the bezel A, substantially as shown.
