To all whom fit may concern :Y

Be it known that I, Trios. K.KNAP1 ,of Dansville, in the county of Livingston and in the State ofNew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mop-Heads; and do hereby decla-re that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specication.

The nature otl my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a mop head and handle, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.

ln order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to de eribe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a side view of my mop head and handle, showing the head open and drawn up on the handle. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal sec tion, showing the mop in place. Fig. 3 is an enlarged side view ot' a slidingcollar or sleeve on the handle.

A represents a wooden handle of any suitable dimensions, provided with an elongated r'errule, B, v which is fastened to the handle by means ot a single pin, n, which pin also secures the end ot' a central rod, (l, projecting' a suitable distance beyond the end of the handle, and also a spring, D. The spring I) lies in a slot in the side ot' the ferrule 13, and in a groove in the wooden vhandle A, and the end ot' the spring passes on the inside of the unslotted portion at thev end of the ferrule, and forms two catches, a and b, as shown in Fig. 2. The rod (l has a cross-bar, C', iirmly attached to its outer end. E represents a collar or sleeve sliding upon the ferrule B, and pr'ovided on opposite sides with notches x, one at each end, for the catches a b ot the spring D to enter and hold the sleeve iirmly in place. Both catches operate to prevent the sleeve from turning: the catch a prevents it from moving up on the handle, and the catch b prevents it from comin g oft of the h andle. Longitudinallyupon opposite sides of the sleeve E are recessed ribs or projections d, for the reception ot' the ends of two rods or crms,Gr G. The extreme upper ends of these rods are bent inward, entering corresponding holes in the ribs d, and are fastened by pins g/ passing through the same. rIhe arms or rods Gr G run parallel with the center rod C for a certain distance, then bend outward, as shown at e c, and the ends again run parallel with, but at a greater distance from, the center rod 0. rlhe ends of the arms or rods G G are cut with suitable screw-threads, and set-nuts j' f are screwed up thereon. The ends beyond said nuts pass loosely through an elongated jaw, H, and attached to a similar` jaw, H, both of said jaws having center holes, through which the rod C passes. .The `jaws H H are constructed as shown in Fig. 2-that is, in the form of a halthexagon-shaped tube-making them concave longitudinally on their under sides. The rods or arms G are made octagon or hexagon, or any Yother suitable shape, except round, and, running parallel with the center rod (l, they i'orm a convenient handhold for one hand in wringing out the mop. rIhe tlan ges or ribs It on the handle form the hold for the other hand, so that the wringing ot' the mop can be easily accomplished.

Having thus l'ully described my invention. what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The combination of the angular arms G G, with screw-threads at their lower ends, the nuts j" f, plates H H', and center rod C, with bar C', with the sleeve E and spring D on the handle A, all constructed substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
