BUSHING STRUCTURE.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MoRRIs SCHWARTZ. citizen of the United States, residing at Chicage, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Bushing Structures,
of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description. I,
My invention relates to bushings and bodies to which they are applied and has for its object the provision of a construction whereby tags may be effectively assembled with such bushings and bodies.
The invention is of particular service in the construction of barrels in which the bores of the bushings constitute the bung holes of the barrels. In accordance with the invention the wall of a barrel having such bushing is formed with a ridge which is spaced apart from the opening receiving the bushing. The bushing itself is formed with a projection that is received. in the space between the ridge and the opening that receives the bushing and the tag 1s clamped between" the projection upon the bushing and the body receiving the bushing. This tag may be put to any selected use. I have employedvit as an element of a seal to guard against the unauthorized openmg of the barrel equipped with it. When the tag is thus employed the bung-received in the v bushing and the tag are formed with apertures to receive a sealing wire or string.
The invention will be more fully explained by reference to the accompanying drawing 1n which Fig. 1 is an end view,
with parts broken away, showing a portion of a barrel head equipped with a structure of my invention; Fig. 2 is a sectional view on line 2-2 of Fig. 1 with parts shown in elevation; and Fig. 3 is aperspective view showing the bushing and its supporting body in separated relation and the tag placed in the position in whichit isto be clamped.
' Like parts are indicated by s1m1lar characters of reference throughout the different bead or ridge 3 which bulges from the side i of the body that is opposite the free end of the tubular portion, this bead being spaced apart from the opening which receives the cylindrical bushing portion 4 and being desirably polygonal in contour to form a pocket to receive the flange or projection 5 of the bushing whose exterior edge is similar in contour to the contour of the bead and is engageable with the inner side of the head to prevent the bushing from turning upon its support when the bushing is guarded against axial movement with reference to said support as by means of a flange 6 curled to engage the inner end of the tubular portion 2. This characteristic forms the subject matter of my co-pending application Serial No. 573,270, filed August 17, 1922.
The tag 7, preferably of strip metal, overlies the bead at two adjacent angularly related portions thereof and is clamped at its inner end between the flange 5 and body 1. The curled flange 6 serves to clamp the inner end of the tag between the flange 5 and the 5 inner end of the tag. When the structure is employed to furnish bung holes the interior of the bushing may be threaded to. receive the threaded portion of the bung 9. When the tag is to form an element of a seal to guard against the unwarranted removal of the bung the tag is formed with an aperture 10 and some portion of the bung, say the car 11 formed on its flange .12, 1s formed with an aperture 13. A sealing wire or string 14 is passed through the apertures 10 and 13 and its ends are sealed together by a seal 15.

The combination with a body formed with an opening therethrough and having two adjacent angularly related ridge portions spaced apart from said opening; of. a bushing in said opening and formed with a projection received in the space between said ridge portions and opening; and a tag engaging both of said ridge portions and extending between said projection and body and clamped in place by said projection.
4. The combination with a body formed with. an opening therethrough and having two adjacent angularly related ridge portions spaced apart from said opening; of an interiorly threaded bushingin said opening and formed witha. projection received in the space between said ridge portions and opening; a tag engaging both of said ridge portions and extending between said projection and body and clamped in'place by said projection; and a bung received within and in threaded engagement with said bushing, the outer portions of said tag and bung being formed with apertures for the reception of a sealingwire or string.

The combination with a body formed with an opening therethrough and having two adjacent angularly related ridge por-" tions spaced apart from said opening; of an interiorly threaded bushing in said opening and formed with a projection received in the space between said ridge portions and opening; a tag engaging both' of said ridge portions and extending between said projection and body and clamped in place by said projection; and a bung received within and in threaded engagement with said bushing), the
outer portions of said tag and bung ing formed with vapertures for the reception of a sealing wire or string, the outer end of the projection upon the bushing conforming in ner contour of said ridge portions to hold the bushing from rotation.
6. The combination with a body of sheet material having a tubular portion integrally formed therewith and a bead spaced apart from the bore of said tubular portion and also integrally formed therewith and projecting from said body oppositely to said tubular portion; of a bushing in the bore of said tubular portion and formed with a projection received in the space between said bead and the bore of said tubular portion; and a tag having an inner end extending between said projection and body and clamped in place by said projection.
7 The combination with a body of sheet material having a tubular portion integrally formed therewith and a bead spaced apart from the bore of said tubular portion and also integrally formed therewith and projecting from said body oppositely to said tubular portion; of an interiorly threaded bushing in the bore of said tubular portion and formed with a projection received in the space between said bead and the bore of said tubular portion; a tag having an inner end extending between said projection and body and clamped in place by said projection; and a hung received within and in threaded engagement with said. bnshing, the outer portions, of said tag andbung being formed with apertures for the reception of a sealing wire or string.
8. The combination with a body of sheet material having a tubular portion integrally formed therewith and a bead spaced apart from the bore of saidtubular portion and also integrally formed therewith and projecting from said body oppositely to said tubular-portion, said bead having two adjacent angularly related portions; of a bushing in the bore of said tubular portion and formed with a projection received in the space between said bead and the bore of said tubular portion;'and a tag having an inner end extending between said projection and body and clamped in place by said projection, this tag engaging both ofthe angularly related portions of said bead.

The combination with a body of sheet material having a tubular portion integrally formediherewith and a bead spaced apart from the bore of said tubular portion and also integrally formed therewith and projecting from said body oppositely to said tubular portion, said bead having two adjacent angularly relatedport'ons; of an interiorly threaded bushing'in he bore of-said tubular portion and formed with a projection received in the space between said bead and the bore of said' tubular portion; atag having an inner end extending between said by said projection, this tag engaging both of contour to and closely approaching their); the angularly related porti lm of said a and a bung received within and in threaded engagement with said bushing, the outer portions of said tag and bung being formed with apertures for the reception of a sealing wire or string.

The combination with a body of sheet material having a tubular portion integrally formed therewith and a bead spaced apart from the bore of said tubular portion and also integrally formed therewith and projecting from said body oppositely to said tubular portion, said bead having two adjacent angularly related portions; of a bushing in the bore of said tubular portion and formed with a projection received in the space between said bead and the bore of said tubular portion; and a tag having an inner end extending between said projection and body and clamped in place by said projection, this tag engaging both of the angu-' larly related portions of said head, the projection upon the bushing conforming in con-' tour to and closely approaching the inner contour of said angularly related bead portions to hold the bushi'ngfrom rotation.
11. The combination with a body of sheet material having a tubular portion integrally formed therewith and a bead spaced apart from the bore of said tubular portion and also integrally formed therewith and projecting from said body 0 positely to said tubular portion, said bead having two adjacent angularly related portions; of an inte riorly threaded bushing in the bore of said tubular tion received in the space between said bead and the bore of said tubular portion; a tag having an inner and extending between said projection and body and clamped in place by said projection, this tag engaging both of the angularly related portions of said bead, the projection upon the bushing conforming in contour to and closely approaching theinner contour of said angularly related bead portions to hold the bushing from rotation; and a bung received within and in threaded engagement with said bushing, the outer portions of said tag and bung being formed with apertures for the reception of a I sealing wire or string.
12. The combination with. a body formed with an opening therethrough and having two adjacent angularly related ridge portions spaced apart from said openings; of a bushing in said opening and formed with a projectionreceived in the space between said ridge portions and opening; and a tag overlying both of said ridge ortions and extending between said pro ection and body and clamped in place by said projection, the outer end of the projection upon the bushing conforming in contour to and closely approaching the inner contour of said ridge portions to'hold'the bushing from rotation.
