CLIP.

To all whom it may concern.

Be it known that I, ALBERT C. VANERKA, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Clips, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to clips adaptable for frictionally retaining a plurality of cards or sheets of paper or rope or cords as for instance window shade cords.

The invention has among its objects to provide a clip of this character which shall be simple in construction and operation and one which can be readily installed.

With these and other objects in view my invention consists in the novel construction, combination and relative position of the parts and members hereinafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawing in which like reference characters indicate like or corresponding parts:

Figure 1 is an elevation of a clip embodying my invention and Fig. 2, a side elevation of Fig. 1, showing the frictional or spring retainment of a cord or rope. Fig. 3, is a cross section showing the upwardly pressed portion for increasing the frictional engagement of the clip.

Referring to the drawings which show one forn'i or en'ibodiment of my invention, 10 indicates a plate member preferably made of a steel stamping which is provided with a plurality of holes 11 for the attaching wood screws 12. The clip can, of course, be attached in any suitable position.

are fixed in the sockets 14: which are pressed or stamped out from the body 10. The body plate 10 is also pressed out at 15 to form a retaining ridge for the curved intermediate portions of the small inverted Us. It is thus obvious that the spring member 13 is held immovable between the ridge 15 and the sockets 14. The curved end of the U clip section 18 is also slightly curved upwardly away from the plate 10 to facilitate the smooth insertion of a rope or cable 16 thereunder. To insure a positive grip of the clip, I provide the base 10 with the upward pressed or raised section 11 which extends longitudinally between the U section 13 and thus the rope 16 is flexed as it is held against same by the force of the spring 13*. See section in Fig. 3.

I claim:

1. In a rope clip and in combination, a base plate member, a U-shaped spring clip mounted on said member, said member having a raised portion extending longitudinally between the parallel sides of said U- shaped clip for flexing the rope to increase the frictional retaining action of said clip, said U-shaped spring clip having the ends thereof bent to form inverted Us and sockets integral with said base member for retaining said inverted U-ends.

2. In a rope clip and in combination, a base plate member, a U-shaped spring clip mounted on said member, said member hav ing a raised portion extending longitiulinally between the parallel sides of said U- shaped clip for flexing the rope to inrrease the frictional retainment of said clip, said U-shaped spring clip having the ends thereof bent for abutment with said base member, and sockets on said base member for retaining said ends of the clip.
