NATHAN HATCH, OF ALBANY, NEW YORK.
COMBINATION GARMENT.
Application filed June 12, 1923. serial No. M4355.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NATHAN! HATCH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Albany, county of Albany, State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Garments, of which the following is a speciii cation.
This invention relates to an article of wearing apparel and specifically to a combination garment for men, women and children. The garment is particularly adapted for underwear, such as union suits, but is not necessarily confined to such uses because the invention is obviousl applicable to other types of union or combination garments,
1 such as athletic suits, pajamas and overalls.
erably of knitted webbing,
In the interest of brevity the following description particularly pertains to union or combination garments for underwear, but as stated above, it is obvious that the same construction may be utilized in making the other garments above mentioned.
One of the objects of the invention is to provide a garment of the union or combination t in which it is not necessary to provide uttoning or fastening means ordinarily required to closethe chest or back portions in garments of this type.
Another object of the inventionis to provide a" arment of the union or combination type w ich' is, for the most part, constructad of non-elastic fabric, such as nainsook or other non-elastic fabric suitable for the particular purpose for-which the garment 1s to be 11%], so that such a garment may be easily donned or taken on, and which will nice ly fit the body of the wearer without the use of buttons or fastening means.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a garment of the type described in which the chest and back rtions only, or the shoulder, chest and bac portions are provided with inserts of elastic fabric, prefso constructed that the shoulder portions may be displaced laterally to permitthe garment to be readilv donned or removed by stepping into it through the neck opening, yet when worn, the chest, shoulder and back portions are positioned to adequately cover and nicely fit the body of the wearer.
With these and. other objects in view the invention comprises the garment described and illustrated in the accompanying specifiat the waist line of the garment, so as to cation and drawings and defined in the claims. The various features of the invention are illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which: I
Fig. 1 is an elevation showing the front of a garment embodying my invention.
Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the back of said garn'lent.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view in perspective, partly broken away and partly in sec tion on line 3 of Fig. 1. i
Fig. 4 is a View of the upper portion of the garment, the neck opening being stretched in order to don the garment by stepping into it; in this figure the stretched neck opening is bounded by the full lines and the dotted lines show the portions of the garment in place on the body of the wearer when donned.
Figs. 5, 6, 7 and 8 are views similar respectively to Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4. of a modified construction of garment.
Referring more particularly to the accompanying drawin the front chest portions are designate 10 and 11, the back portions 12 and 13, the shoulder portions 25 and 26, the central body portions 14 and 15 and the leg portions 16 and 17. All of these portions are constructed of woven non-elastic fabric, such as nainsook, or
other suitable woven non-elastic fabric when used for underwear.v Between the back body portions 15 ahd the back portions 12 and 13 may preferably be inserted a horizontal strip of elastic knitted webbing 18, in order to stretch and give when the wearer bends over, and therefore relieve the strains thus brought upon that portion of the garment.
The particular structure involving my improvements consists in the placement in the upper trunk portion of the garment of longitudinally disposed gussets or inserts 20 and 30, preferably triangular in shape, of elastic knitted webbing, the insert 20 being placed in the front portion of the garment between the chest non-elastic portions 10 and 11, and insert 30 being placed in the back portion of the garment between the back- non-elastic portions 12 and 13, both of the elastic knitted webbing inserts extending upwardly from the points substantiall the triangular sha ed 0 enings which have been respectively orme between the chest portions .10 and 11, and the'back portions mamas ity said gazcmenia being provided wifih elastic shoulder sfipmgp members at '12:! apparend anci with longituflinmliy fiispwsmi miw tiveiy small inse'ris n? a :Embis' having greater elasticity than that 0% rbhe fira; mentioned. fabric, the said inserts being place& in 5119 chest and back par'ci'ans of the garment between the loops 01' mm bales formad by the shouider straps'ef opposii-s shoulders and extending dowflwardiy from the neck opam ing and stretchable to latemfly dispiacas the shoulder straps to ex'mit the insertie-n m? tha bay haiwaausmfl shmzlfier straps when damning; 0E dofing the garment, mad by thair @lusivicity to resume their normal pssz @imzs m draw the shoulder snaps snugly 51pm th s shauldiers and the upper portion 0% fine garment towards the neck when the 20' garment is donned.
