IMPROVEMENT IN TREADLE ATTACHMENTS FOR SEWING-MACHINES. v

To all whom t may concern:

Be it known that I, WILLIAM HAsLUP,`of Sidney, in the county of Shelby and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mechanical Movements; and

I do hereby declare that the following is a full,

In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure 1is a plan view of my treadle mechanism. Fig. 2 is a vertical section of the same, and Fig. 3 is a detached view of a part thereof.

A represents the stand or frame of a sewing or other4 machine, to be operated by a treadle mechanism. In the front part of the stand or frame A, near the bottom, is a shaft a, upon which is fastened a sleeve or collar, B, by means of a set-screw, b. From this sleeve or collar extends a short arm, d, to which arm is secured a shaft, C, extending at right angles toward both sides, as shown. On the shaft O are pivotedtwo treadles, Dand D', at their heels. These treadles are at their front ends or toes connected by a strap or belt, f, which passes over a pulley, 71., mounted in a vertical bar or frame, E, attached to the main frame or stand A at its upper end. The vlower end of D to ascend and force the pitman G upward,

giving the wheel H the other half of its revolution, and so on alternately;

This forms a perfect walkin g-treadlein which no pressure is necessary to be exerted by the heels of the operator.

The sleeve or collar B' may readily be adjusted on the shaft a to the most convenient position for the operator.

I am well aware that much has been done in devising treadle mechanism for sewingma chines, and that the'various parts which go to make up my invention are not in themselves new.

Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The combination of shaft C and treadles D D with arm d, shaft a, belt f, pulley h, pitman G, and wheel H, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
