To all ywhom t may concern:
Be it known that we, GUADALUPE BUELNA, a citizen of the United States, and HENRI EUGENE JEREMIE VACHER, a citizen of Canada, residing at Santa Barbara, county of Santa Barbara, and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Nozzle, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to an improvement in water spraying devices for lawns and the like and it has especial referenceto a simple, cheap and eflicient spray nozzle for a sprinkling arrangement of the rotary order, wherein the rotation of the sprinkler head is accomplished by the action of the escaping streams of water.
The object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed nozzle by which the water may be projected as far as the pressure in the main will permit and in which a portion of the stream may be made to whirl whereby to produce an accompanying spray at the same time that a maximum throw of water is effected.
Another object of the invention is to provide a nozzle by which the water is distributed in an even and regular manner from the end of the nozzle to the end of the projected stream, thereby evenly spreading the water-over a large area.
Other objects will appear from the specification following in connection with the accompanying drawina illustrating a pre ferred embodiment ofP the invention, and
in which- Fig. 1 is an elevation of the spray device.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged bottom plan view` Fig. 3 is an enlarged plan-view and Fig. 4 is a sectional view, the section occurring on line 4 4 Figs. 2 and 3 respectively.
rlhe spray device or nozzle is constructed of a single pieceof metal and may comprise a body generally indicated at l, having an internally threaded cylindrical portion 2,
, for attachment to a water conducting arm of a. sprinkler, not shown, said cylindrical portion being externally shaped as seen at 3 for accommodating a wrench or other tool in applying the spray nozzle to a water conduit.
Said body is provided with a conical or tapering bore 4 and with a cylindrical passageway or bore 5 which is contiguous with Serial No. 671,338.
cylindrical surface or bore 5 and into the.
upper area of the conical surfacev or bore 4. These grooves are .provided to impart a rotary motion to the outside of a. stream projected through the nozzle, and thereby produce a. spray which increases in area from the time of generation of the whirl to the end of the stream.
Through the center of the cylindrically grooved bore 5 of the nozzle, the stream of water is freely projected as far as the water pressure will permit, while, as stated, the outer part ofthe water stream is whirled to provide a spray. In this manner, a full volume or compact jet of water may be projected in a direct line, without in any wise being affected by the grooves 6, which cause only the outside area of the projected water column to break up and separate at a tangent to the longitudinal axis of the main column. The result is that a larger body of water may be delivered at greater distance, with an efficient accompaniment of spray.
Vhat we claim, is:
l. A spray nozzle for water sprinklers -comprising a body threaded for attachment to a source of water supply, and having a tapering bore and a contiguous cylindrical bore, said cylindrical bore having a plurality of equally spaced substantially spiral grooves extending inwardly from the end of said nozzle and terminating in the upper part of said tapering bore.
2. A spray nozzle for water sprinklers, comprising a body adapted for attachment to a source of water supply, said body having, for the greater part of its length, a tapering bore, and said tapering bore conjoined by a cylindrical bore, the wall of said cylindrical bore formed with grooves for producing a peripheral motion of the outside area of the water stream passing through the nozzle.
3. A spray nozzle for water sprinklers comprising a body arranged for attachment to a source of water supply, and having a tapering bore and a contiguous cylindrical EUGENE. .IEPSEMIE vAcHEn, or SANTA BARBARA,
